PS3 Best overall way to prevent YLOD?

The theory most people subscribe to is that all 90nm RSX are effected by bumpgate. In that case reballing would just be kicking the can down the road. Sometimes you'll get a 3034 syscon error that's a legitimate bga issue. In that case reballing would help. Why reball a faulty chip though? If you're going that far. Might as well put a 65 or 40nm on the board.
I see so unless the issue is related to reballing(i.e. something that the reballing could/would fix) then having the console reballed could actually make a YLOD more likely?

You wouldn't re-ball a console unless the syscon points to that being the problem. Even then it's hard to say if it's a BGA Issue or an RSX failure. Some people think the "pressure test" could help narrow that down. I've never had luck with that. Generally people don't re-ball a working unit as a preventative measure. Even retrofitting a 40/65nm shouldn't be done as a preventative measure. If your launch model runs, then most people will agree to just keep it dust free, with fresh thermal paste/pads and enjoy it until the time comes for rsx/token failure.

I myself have an og phat, it had ylod and the 3 red blinking lights with a post signal. I had to remove 2 disks that were stuck in the disk drive due to my father in law trying to watch a movie while the ac disk was still in it. After that I reflowed and replaced thermal pads and paste after giving it a good cleaning and it booted right up. I followed an Ifixith guide and after 2 months it happened again. I then reflowed and repasted and looked into possible solutions and found it to be an issue with the fan not spinning enough to cool it, because Sony didn't want it to sound loud. I jailbroke it and installed webman since I never played online anyway and haven't had an issue with it for like a year maybe more. I'm not saying it extends the life of a console but for my purposes it worked amazingly. I don't have any pirated games and think you should consider homebrew/ jailbreaking if you think your console is close to a ylod event. There are fans on eBay that have more blades but even with that I can't say it would work due to Sony fan speed restrictions.

I hope you're not suggesting anyone take a heat gun meant for stripping paint to their console? That is not a preventative measure. That ifixit guide has probably killed 100's if not thousands of consoles. Not only that, but when you create delam on a board, it's not repairable. The fact that it worked for you is just blind luck.

I'm not saying that at all, I had to do this because I didn't have the money to buy a new console nor have a place to send it for repairs. I'm just stating my experience and that people should consider webman before having any issues so they don't have to do what I did.

Another thing i have read here is to change the thermal shutdown of the ps3 in the syscon as preventive maintenance. Maybe it will save some component from burning when criticals things occur ?
