PS3 Black screen freeze when launching any homebrew app

Hi,
I have a CECHA00. I installed Evilnat 4.88 Cobra NoBD (my optical drive is busted). Everything worked just fine. I played GTA:SA, LittleBigPlanet etc. Then I wanted to try the ps3xpad plugin. Which was so painful to get it working. But I was able to connect to my cheap USB dongle with my DualShock 4. Then I tried to make it work with my DualSense, just to see if it would work.

I remember I launched VHS menu for ps3xpad and clicked pairing. The console froze and I had to cut the power off to it. I turned the PS3 on again and I couldn't connect the DualShock 4 via ps3xpad plugin anymore wirelessly. I tried launching the VHS menu with OPTIONS SHARE SQUARE. I just heard beeps nothing on the screen showed up.

So I decided to restore everything to system defaults through XMB, Settings. Then I tried to installed back my homebrew applications and none of them are working right now. I try to launch multiman, it freezes on the black screen. Any application now behaves like that.

I feel like I might have done something wrong and messed up really badly, idk

Please help

What should I do?
I was thinking about idk going back to OFW or something. Taking out the drive and just formatting it myself on a computer? Is this fixable?
 
I just installed Evilnat NoBT NoBD and homebrew just works.
Any idea how to get the internal Bluetooth working again?
 
noBT will disable the bluetooth so it will not work. noBD will do the same thing.

BTW you do not need noBD just because your drive will not read a disc. you only need it if discs will not read and all homebrew or psn games will not launch.
 
Well first you guys need to ensure you have the right diagnosis. But something black screening upon launch is a hardware failure. You can run a system with a bad laser without the need of a no-BD firmware. The daughter board had to be working and so long as that it a no-BD isn't needed. Even then you can get the daughter board off eBay for $20 and it is advised to do so. Now if you BT module is dead you can either get a new board for cheap or use a third party BT dongle with PS3Xpad which will allow you to use them wirelessly even official DS3 pads will work as normal with this method.

Imported "CFW 4.88 Evilnat Cobra 8.3 [CEX].rar". Also tried "CFW 4.88.2 Evilnat Cobra 8.3 [CEX] [noBD + noBT].rar".
I can install PKGs without any problems, but as soon as I want to run something, there is always no signal at first and then nothing happens anymore :(
It's not the HDMI cable either, I've tried 3 of them.
Does somebody still have an idea?

I would like to go into more detail about this.

As basic hardware I have two PS3's.

  • Playstation 3 Slim CECH-2504A
  • Playstation 3 Slim CECH-2004A

I only run both internally with a Toshiba HDD 320 GB or 1TB Cruzial SSD.

In order to use the HDD or SSD, I had them formatted and initialized twice with the PS3 system.

Then I followed this thread 1 to 1 => [Tutorial] PS3 from OFW to CFW without hardware flasher (currently June 2021)

Result: Everything went smoothly and could be carried out!

After that, the "CFW 4.88.2 Evilnat Cobra 8.3 [CEX]" was installed TWICE cleanly via the recovery menu

Result: Everything went smoothly!

Then the following *.pkg's were installed:

  • Ducktales.pkg
  • RetroArch.PS3.CEX.PS3.pkg
  • RetroArch_Psx-Place_Community_Edition_unofficial_beta-20220315.pkg
and the following games for testing (under GAMES)

[with the file contents (PS3_GAME / PS3_UPDATE)]

  • BLES02246-Minecraft Story Mode
  • BLES01976-Minecraft PlayStation3 Edition
  • BLES00074 - Burnout Paradise

Updates of the games can also be carried out!

BUT as soon as I start one of the *.PKG's or games, I only get the black screen and that's on both PS3 models!

It doesn't matter which Multi or Webman version you use (same behavior with earlier versions too)! Note: As soon as I want to start Multiman, I also end up in a black screen and then nothing happens! Just like with the other *.PKG's!

I can't imagine (that's why I named the titles exactly) that it starts and works for someone else!? Who can test once?

I'm really desperate and unfortunately I can't understand it. :(

The strange thing is that PS1 and PS3 ISO's start and work.

I had the same issue any app or game was giving me a black screen.
I opened my PS3 for cleaning and termal paste replacement and i believe i disconnected everything even the cmos battery a i thought i broke something when i was cleaning it BD or BT but nope i installed games again apps webman, multiman, etc. nothing worked,
but what fixed my problem after hours of headache was: adjust the time and date :encouragement: and everything started working again...
