PS3 Can't Copy PS3 Games on CFW 4.90 Evilnat

Hi there,

I asked about this issue in the release thread of CFW 4.90 Evilnat but figured I should make a new thread in the help section to stop posting there and perhaps seek specific assistance.

I have a BC CECHA01 PS3 and just installed CFW over the weekend. I installed Evilnat 4.90 CEX without issue.

I installed multiMAN and when I inserted a PS3 game disc the game appears but when I tried to select the Copy option I get an error message saying "This operation is not allowed". I tried with more than one PS3 game with the same result. I also tried the "Switch to multiMAN mode" option as suggested in the CFW release notes but the result is the same.

I tried reinstalling multiMAN but that did not change anything.

Using multiMAN it will allow me to create an ISO of the game disc but then it cannot launch the resulting ISO file. I tried using the "Extract ISO" function but the resulting file could not be read either.

I double checked the Cobra settings and confirmed Cobra is enabled by default. Tried the same things with Cobra enabled and disabled just to see if that would make a difference but it still did not work.

Subsequently I installed webMAN Mod (as I intended to eventually) and Irisman. When I turn on the "With BDVD Controller" option in Irisman and insert a PS3 game it will either eject the disc after attempting to read it or it will show an error message "Disc failed to authenticate".

The PS3 games still show up in the XMB and I could launch them from there so it does not seem like there is an issue with the discs.

There is also plenty of space available on the hard drive (~824GB).

Today I tried installing the PEX version of 4.90 Evilnat to see if that would make any difference but unfortunately it did not.

Now the only other issue I could think of was that I replaced the blu ray drive since the original drive was not taking discs. This was before I installed CFW. I took the drive from another CECHA01 PS3 that is not working (YLOD) to replace the BD drive that was not working. I swapped the daughter board on the donor BD drive for the one with the PS3 that I'm using now and that worked on OFW. I was able to test PS3, PS2 and PS1 games along with DVDs and Blu-Rays and all worked after the swap so I did not need to re-marry the BD drive.

So with that in mind I thought that maybe I still needed to re-marry this BD drive in order for multiMAN and other homebrew applications to be able to copy games.

So I tried the re-marry BD drive function from the CFW settings. Unfortunately this still had no effect and the issue persists. Additionally now I am getting a 80010514 error when trying to launch PS3 game discs from the XMB. It seems like instead of fixing the issue I made it worse.

PS2 and PS1 games still work from the disc. The only issue is with PS3 games.

I tried rebuilding the file system but no luck.

It seems like the issue is with the PS3 encryption but I don't know how to go about diagnosing or fixing that specifically. This would explain why I can create an ISO but the file is still encrypted.

I have the NAND dump from before CFW was installed and the ERK from when I tried to re-marry the BD drive available if that will help.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate any assistance that can be provided by anyone here.

This PS3 has been a long headache for me and I really hope there is a way this can be fixed so that I can use it as I hoped to.

Thanks again!

SOLVED:

This was a disc issue. I'm still not 100% sure why they weren't working but it looks like the games I was using were not being read properly. The discs are clean and scratch-free and yet there is some sort of issue with them being read.

Tried other games in the system and they work now and I can copy games as expected.

Just bad luck that the first handful of games I grabbed to try were faulty for some reason. I tested these faulty games in other systems and they did not work in those PS3s either.

Figured I would post this in case anyone else has a similar issue in the future. If anyone has the same issue my recommendation would be to try a different game even if you've tested more than one. Also try the games that were giving you issues like the 80010514 error in another PS3 to see if they work.
