I'm trying to downgrade to an older version but every time I try to downgrade, I get this error

I've enabled QA flags in Cobra settings.
I tried to downgrade to 2.40 OFW and 3.55 Downgrader
My console is CECHKxx capable to downgrade to 2.16

So go into your settings and do the button combo to get Edy Viewer to pop up. Go to system update debug and enable. Then transfer your firmware into hdd0://updater/01 this has no naming requirements. Mine are simply labeled EvilNat, Rebug etc. No .PUP needed and doesn't have to be named PS3UPDAT.PUP either. Then just to to settings and choose update from system storage. This will allow you to update quickly you can upgrade and downgrade freely as well as it gives you a bit of brick support as well as disabling system updates online.

Tried the button combo, it doesn't work, and QA flags are enabled because I have debug update options

Update via system storage gives the same error (for 2.40)

4.89 Evilnat with Cobra 8.3

So just tried it on mine and button combo works fine. Only thing I can think of is some issue with your QA flag token. So have your checked that the MD5 matches the firmware you are trying to use? Also which firmware are you trying to install? And you have the flash drive for atted the FAT32 MBR with 64k cluster size and in the correct folder with naming?

PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

it's formatted correctly since i updated to 4.89 from it today

(for 2.40)
I tried to downgrade to 2.40 OFW and 3.55 Downgrader

And 2.40 is an ofw release so it should be correct

Well you won't be able to go that far back. If QA flags are set right you should be able to go to 3.55 OFW I have downgraded before to lower firmwares for comparison and I have to go to 3.55 first then to said firmware. This is also the case when I go from say 1.00 to current I must update to 3.41 then current. Not sure what is going on with your setup. Maybe something with the firmware itself.

3.55 OFW didn't work as well, it looks like I can't downgrade at all even with QA flags enabled

Try downgrading to 4.88 Evilnat, just so we can know whether it won't downgrade at all or just won't accept versions lower than a certain one.

I'm also having this issue, I'm on evilnat 4.89 cobra 8.3 and QA flags are enabled and my minver is 3.50. I'm trying to downgrade to 3.55 ofw but it won't let me. When I try update via usb it says no update found, when I try within recovery menu it says data corrupted. Any help?

Check the usual suspects -
1. Are the PS3 and UPDATE directories all uppercase?
2. Is the update file named PS3UPDAT.DAT (without the E)?
3. Check whether the MD5 of the firmware file is corrcect.

Download the CFW and check MD5 matched or not then simply copy to FAT32 usb drive PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP, install the firmware from recovery menu if the XMB is not taking update file.

I've done this already, the xmb doesn't show any update and in recovery it says data corrupted. I think QA flag doesn't work properly on Evilnat. I never had any problems with Rebug. Maybe I should try using rebug toolbox?
