Sounds like a plan , although I've had a cech a00 recently that wouldn't play ps2 games , so I swapped for 40nn rsx ,still didnt play ps2 games swapped cxd 9208 still didn't play ps2 games . .than swapped for 65nm rsx and guess what .. tried a few different ps2 disks and some worked so I may have done all for nothing could just be a issue with only a few non compatible games on A00 ,UPDATE:
I have to say that I've been trying with a dead PS3 motherboard and I'm not confident enough of my skills, so before screwing up something, I've contacted a company that does soldering and reballing to see when can I go. The thing is to first replace the "CXD9208 IC" chip, test, if it doesn't work then replace EE+GS, if it fails then do the reballing on the RSX.
I'll try to update when I get more info about the company.
Sorry for the late reply, but I've tried it and I know that I'm not able to do it, neither the skills and tools are proper for this job and I wouldn't like to mess up the motherboard, nor the donant nor the working one.
And which games did you tried? Are they exclusive japanese?Sounds like a plan , although I've had a cech a00 recently that wouldn't play ps2 games , so I swapped for 40nn rsx ,still didnt play ps2 games swapped cxd 9208 still didn't play ps2 games . .than swapped for 65nm rsx and guess what .. tried a few different ps2 disks and some worked so I may have done all for nothing could just be a issue with only a few non compatible games on A00 ,
Hello everyone, I would have encountered the same problem and would like to know if you have any news about it
i would like to know if even for some reason with the rsx mod at 40 nm is creating these errors. i 'm documenting a lot, but i really have very little experience and very few people to compare with, however i see that the scene is still hot and any information is cause for documentation. If only I can fix this problem it would be the ultimate ps3 for meHi Flared!
Wish I could bring good news, but the only person I've found, after December it hasn't replied to any DM, ppls keeps asking him for the project and I think it's totally dead... But I try to get more info, maybe this year I can finally update it with an answer or something.

I believe that this machine is meant to suck a lot of energy, and as much as they can squeeze out no more than 2 years, they have not considered how much heat it produces at the same time, generating the component failures.Do you think it's because the RSX mod? Mine it's an original japanese ps3, I haven't found anyone here marked as "technician" who really wants to do this work (frankenstein mod and/or replace NEC tokins). I can do the NEC replacement, but for now, the console has been able to being for like 10-12h in a game like the last of us without any problems. The only part that fails is the ps2 retrocompatibility, and here, I don't have the experience nor the equipment to do what @Supermaripro told me to do, that was replace the chip.
The worst part is that none** store I've found here (Barcelona) is willing to work with the ps3, I just want to replace the chip but those technicians just say "I don't work with such old system". I mean, just tell a price to swap the chip and that's it. I don't really know, I wish I could help more, but for now, and for a while, I haven't found any solution.
EDIT1: Changed any to none in the sentence "The worst part is that none** store"

But with the 40 nm RSX it is likely that the current reduction will not allow enough power to be supplied to the ps2 chip in this mode ( I don't want to dwell on the technicalities because I'm not an expert, but a big fan).
P.S. Can you explain why the CXD9028 is referred to and not the CXD2953AGB?
What if it actually lacks that little bit of power obtainable from the motherboard so that it can resume function?
I remember reading that with the 65 nm the A00 was responsive, could it be because it still can get enough current?
For the rest I get information through Youtube and specific stores that do these jobs like "Computer Booter" or Ace Console Repair, there is also a Discord channel that groups all the enthusiasts and all this in the last two years! it is a great scene!
EDIT: I have already asked them as well if they know how they can solve the problem, but unfortunately even they are unable to fix it
I can leave you with three contacts who deal with making these requests, and you can find them simply by searching with your search engine:First of all, never heard from the chip CXD9028, maybe you're asking for CXD9028?
And trying to answer this, as I said in this same thread, it's a mix of information about PSDEVWIKI and a ps2 excel sheet I've found on the Internet, I think that I explain already explained why there.
And now about the FRANKENSTEIN mod, I cannot help you with that, what I wanted was just to go step by step trying to find and create documentation about the process, but the first chip I need to swap, I'm not able to find anyone willing to do it. And when I found someone, he just dissapeared...
About the current with a 65nm, I think that depends on what I can try and do some reading if you want to, think of it as an untouched ps3 CECHA00, with no mods and such, it's just a model that seems like it has never been touched before me. And it says that it's been only used for 44 days.
About the edit, as I said, if I can find someone near to do the swaps that @Supermaripro wanted to do with its donated board, I could do a documentation about what I've tried and what not.
I can leave you with three contacts who deal with making these requests, and you can find them simply by searching with your search engine:
rare things ps3 delidding (UK)
Ace Console Repair (Australia)
Computer Booter (USA)
These are the only ones I know of that perform these procedures
yes absolutely, maybe for the Australian or American guy you can safely ask them to send you the live excerpt with your board being processed, they regularly perform this and unfortunately they are the furthest along, but they are also the only ones who know how to get their hands on it being a niche practiceThanks, but I wanted someone near just to perform the swap, test and keep testing other components if needed. For sure I can always just send the console and pray for the other person to record and tell me what she/he tried, so I can try and create a documentation.
And from those three, being in Spain... Only the UK is near.
