Hello,
Apologies for the long post, but this issue warrants some context. I've spent a lot of time researching this issue, and I can't seem to find any posts anywhere of any individuals having the same issues I am having and under the same conditions, so I decided to make my own in hopes that someone knows what is going on.
I purchased this console with the intent to repair it. It booted up fine, just had a clogged-up disc drive. Disassembled, cleaned, new thermal paste, the works. Reassembled, then Lo and behold, it cannot connect to Wi-Fi, or connect to Bluetooth devices. The USB ports also do not seem to work (save for the 5V power rails on the USB ports, those seem to work fine). I can't say conclusively whether or not those issues were present before my having disassembled and cleaned it, but I didn't notice if they were.
Since those three things all happen to be on the same sister-board, that was my first approach. No visible damage. Tried swapping the sister-board and data ribbon cable with a set I happened to have lying around, from a YLOD console (CECHL01 I think, but sister-board model was the same). Tested continuity from the sister-board to the mainboard over the data cable, no issues.
My next thought: perhaps it's something software related. I pulled the HDD out and reformatted, with the intent to install SW Ver 4.88 from a thumb drive. Console booted into the "Software Not Found" screen, prompting me to plug in a controller via USB to initiate the search. Here's where things got weird:
The controller managed to connect, but it couldn't find my thumb drive. Since I could not rule out a thumb drive formatting issue, I reformatted it and power cycled the console. Now the controller won't connect. Tried both ports. Power cycled countless times. No dice.
Come back the next day (today), tried swapping the sister-board again for good measure. Once again, the console allowed the controller to connect once, but then it couldn't read the firmware on the thumb drive. After that, it would not connect.
I was skeptical that reading the SYSCON errors would prove helpful since the console did successfully boot and had no power issues, but I soldered the test leads on and UART'ed in anyways. Just as I suspected, error log had nothing conclusive, just some old codes related to unsafe power downs, and HDMI disconnecting during use (both circa 2014), based on my research.
I'm at my wits' end, has anyone encountered this before? Can anyone help me identify additional diagnosis steps I could take to help narrow this down further? I'll be happy to answer any questions or provide more information if it means getting help with this. Thank you!
