Cell CPU OC.

We have the OC for RSX and memory, but now I want cpu OC. Anyone OC the cpu too? The other OCs helped a lot with FPS and response time too, but I heard cpu OC is possible. Doesn't have to be a massive OC. Anything is better. As long as it's stable.

Devs don't know the multipliers yet ( the values are obfuscated), it can only be oc'ed to 4.8GHz and the system will crash on XMB.

Dont forget the XDR DRAM chips, there are 4 things that can be overclocked in a PS3:
RSX core <--- done
Video RAM <--- done
CELL core
System RAM

The system RAM is XDR (an unusual patent by rambus manufacturer), and his cloks signals in the circuit are using some "reference resistors" (shown in the service manuals) i wonder if modifying this resistors could change the XDR clocks

Does Video RAM OC give better game performance, never heard of it

With video RAM i mean the 4 chips inside RSX (under the IHS, at his corners), this ones are overclocked with the hack already published, is made by software because that configuration is loaded "on the fly"

But with the system RAM (the 4 chips connected to CELL, outside of it) im not so sure if can be made by software

So what about the cpu itself? Any idea how to OC it?

The CELL clocks are configured by software, but it happens before bootloader and we are not able to hack the bootloader
Damn. So this is all we can do right now huh. Man I really wanted to take the PS3 further. I was having such a blast benchmarking.

Like it is now 3 years ago, I think more "later" or "never" will happen xD
I feel it will happen. But it is a hard thing to do. But if done, along with RSX OC, we would see huge % gains to fps averages and minimums. It would essentially fix 90% of games.

Could someone perhaps help me get 4.8 GHz running in a PS3? I'd be very interested to see if I can get it stable.

A smaller architecture like 45nm always allows for higher clock speeds.

Does anyone know which processor was used in the 4.8 GHz that were discussed?

I'm also thinking about the NEC Tokin replacement boards from RIPFelix

They might make a difference, if power is the problem. Temperature isn't my issue.

Hey guys have y'all seen the recent news about the possible CELL OC on Mullion-based syscons?
