PS3 CFW and new HDD

I have replaced my hard drive with a new one. The console is a CECH-25xx on which CFW Evilnat 4.88.2 with the QA flag was installed. Can I install CFW or do I have to use BG Toolset again?

No, you can't install CFW directly. You will get a corrupted error. Just faced this throwing a 1TB in mine.

What you're going to have to do is find the HFW firmware that's 4.88. Make sure the controller gets unplugged as soon as you start flashing (the ps3 reads that first for some reason). Then jailbreak via the HFW THEN you can install Evilnat.

That's my suggestion after spending 3 days figuring it out.

Just install the Evilnat 4.88.2 again or any other Cfw you want past 3.56

No need for this as his PS3 is already jailbroken. As advised, pls go ahead with installing any CFW directly.

I thought BG Toolset was running on flash memory and the jailbreak remains in the console. Can I install CFW after format or disk replacement?

Of course You need only CFW on USB for reinstallation if You change HDD and have already installed CFW (on NOR models, NAND probably doesn't need it).

For HAN or HEN, You need hack console again via i.e BG Toolset with HFW.

Hello everyone,
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I have a similar problem and am stuck.

I have a PS3 Slim here with Evilnat CFW 4.91, so jailbreak is already done and the system is running.

Now I have installed a new 1TB hard disk and want to reinstall the system, but I can't get any further.

I have already downloaded the latest Evilnat CFW 4.91 beta 15 and copied the PS3 folder it contains to a freshly FAT32 formatted 16GB USB memory stick -> https://www.psx-place.com/threads/cfw-beta-15-4-91-2-evilnat-w-cobra-v8-5-cex-dex-pex-d-pex.39743/

When I now boot the PS3 into the recovery menu and select system update, either the message "no usable system updates found" or "a serious error has occurred, please contact technical support" appears.

I have also tried both USP ports and also removed the game controller so that it does not draw power from the USB.

What am I doing wrong?


Update:
I've just downloaded the Evilnat CFW 4.91.2 beta 14 instead of beta 15. With beta 14 the installation wen't just fine. I'm using the exact same USB memorystick, but with beta 15 the installation didn't work. Any ideas what could be the problem?
