PS3 CFW versions / types

Hello,

So I am currently in a waiting period as the PS3 I bought is on OFW 4.93 but from using the MinVer checker I got a message that said 3.40 or later, so can do CFW as and when someone can get around the latest OFW.

The question I wanted to ask (as I have used HEN on a "newer" PS3, CECH-30xx) is what is the differences of the different CFW such as EvilNat or the PS3Toolset options.

I am not sure I fully understand the best way to go and what they all offer, all I know is HEN seems a little flaky (although have seen a Mario video that I have yet to try to help with a potential issue in Webman fan settings).

I would like CFW so that I can make it easier for my son to use my disk backups.

Thanks for the advice

There are only two top tier CFWs lines: Rebug (dead since 4.84.2/4.86.1) and Evilnat (alive, newest). Never use any fork of them made by random people if you don't want risk hard to diagnose issues or even perm brick. In 3.55 times there was many different CFWs flavors (Kmaew, Rogero etc.), even in 4.2x times (PsIta etc.). But today, there are only these two. And if for any unknown reason ;) you would want old fw, then use OFW 3.16 or CFW 3.55.4 Rebug only.

If console is for non-technical son, then do not set QA flag. Because it prioritize fw update from net/usb/hdd to bd. I dunno if this is patched in Evilnat, but normally it is how it works and easily you can end with OFW installed from game disc.

do not use NoBT or NoBD unless you have broken or missing hardware.

use Evilnat 4.93 CEX. the other *EX options are not needed just to play some backups and emulators.

the main difference from hen is that cfw is always "enabled".
