Hello all! A bit of background, .Hack is a 4 game series for the PS2. However, due to the model of my Ps3 in which I can only use HEN, no backwards compatibility, I can't use just the internal memory card, the saves have to be encrypted in the ps2 classics format, and it's a lot harder than normal to switch your progress between games. I got my PS3 to work, backed up my saves (I think) and managed to carry over the save file from Infection to Mutation. However, realizing I'd missed an important few items, I figured I could probably make it work a second time.
This was a mistake.
After loading up the Apollo Save Editor, I fooled around and accidentally deleted both saves. When I checked out the files I DID have, they say .VM2 and .VME.
I learned 2 things.
1) It is technically possible to carry over saves between games in a series. I just don't know how. I made it work once.
2) No amount of fiddling has enabled me to get Mutation to recognize those files. I'm about ready to give up.
I'm wondering if I found a save file online, if I could continue on my PS3 or if I can make the files SCEVMC0.VME, SCEVMC1.VME, APOLLO1.VM2 or APOLLO0.VM2 work as a save in a regular XM2 sometime, give up and just remove the .Hack games entirely. I had fun with the first. An important note: I'm able to save the PS2 save to memory card, both the Mutation save where I transferred over the first and the first save. So in theory the saves should be okay, if they're separate from the files I messed with on Dev_hdd0/home/000005/ps2emu2_savedata.
Should've asked for help, but I was feeling confident. Also, there is exactly 1 thread online with this problem, and it's regarding a backwards-compatible system where the isos play fine without the lame system error.
Is there a way to make my PS2 recognize the save file location, which is on the system memory under the normal PS2 memory card the Slim PS3 has? I know there's probably a combination of files, but since I messed with the system files over FTP assuming the 2 files I saw were save 1 and save 2 (when I added a save 3, it didn't add another file).
Anyway, I'd be happy if A) there was a way to grab a normal save and continue with all rare weapons unlocked, import it in and play Mutation, I'm not too attached to my save or B) you could tell me the process to successfully do this in the future. Because the Apollo thing confused the heck out of me. Too many options.
Thanks, good luck hackers
