PS2 Could you upgrade ram of fat ps2 to 64 cause it has extra ram slots on the bottom of the board?

Hello I have always wondered if you could solder in extra ram into the fat ps2 buy taking 2 boards and taking the ram off another board.

How much ram did the development console have?

I am also wondering if i could solder in or reball the emotion engine with the faster emotion engine clocked higher

Those are solder pads correct on the board

On the hardware level it would be impossible to directly solder the additional RAM chips using those vias, because the contacts would be inverted. Maybe it would be possible to do it with some sort of interposer that flips the contacts in the right position.
Not to mention the software part which would be the most demanding.

I upgraded the RAM to 8MB on a PS1 and so far apart from the RAM Test and a modified version of CTR it has not had any other uses.
 
There are no free ram "slots" on the motheboard. so no you can not install it anywhere. First it would have no benefit to any of thegames, second you can not modify the bios.No it is not possible. If it could be done it would be done long ago. no point to even try it even if you have lot of spare time.

Would be cool to try that on a PS2.

8mb IOP RAM is heaven for OPL

He didn't write of "slots" either... Perfect example of a strawman argument!

You know what, I thought about it a few times but not being sure if the software side could somehow use the additional RAM (I'm quite a novice on software, especially with programming, as I'm more comfortable with hardware) I didn't spend much time looking for compatible RAM and for the little I looked I didn't find any, except in formats other than 100 pin LQFP.

But now you have rekindled this idea in my head. :D

There is article somewhere on internet that software side can not use more ram. its hardcoded. also if you vant to use more than two chips there are not enough bus controll pins on the board. but somebody want not understand this. and only want an artificial beef with me.
 
So Jill told Jack, that her Ex-Boyfriends father's best friend said something along the lines... Someone still doesn't provide any sources.

...and software can be adapted or specifically made for it.
 
DESR and DTL-T models utilize 8mb IOP RAM.

If there is something additional in software, it surely can be dealt. Most likely on SYSMEM

Then why we dont have after 25 years fully custom bios replacement for ps2 (not modchips)? like tsop on og xbox? If its only software that can be dealt with...(sarcasm)

First of all we actually DO have these now and it took so long because - contrary to your unsubstantiated claims - pretty much Noone ever messed with the hardware-replacement.
 
I want to add that I believe the xbox efforts were aided by its bios being a derivative of w2k, which had a much larger group working to reverse engineer it. In fact, the original dev kits were nothing more than PCs with a custom bios, you can replicate those if you find the right parts, which are all off the shelf.

The nt4 + nt5.0 code leak of the early 2000's and more recent code leaks for w2k and wxp have certainly helped deepen those efforts

Which is why nowadays replacement kernels are able to completely change how the original kernel worked, in favor of support bigger HDDs, different FS, etc

Its the chicken and egg game, no one bothered to try the hardware side, so there was never software for it. on the Xbox, the software was reverse engineered early on, so people bothered to try the hw side

Yes but on og xbox on mobo v1 to v4 there are also provision and all controll pins for instaling another set of ramchips. unlike on ps2 there is nothing.
