Hello, I'm considering buying a CXD5302DGB for doing a frankenstein mod, it is the 40 nm version without IHS, but I've read on this forum that Rip-Felix said:
"The IHS from a 90nm will work fine. You'll need the added height to mate with the HS from the BC model. However, I have been told that the SS RSX is slighly thinner than the 40nm RSX from a slim. Meaning you may need a copper shim to get them to mate properly. The training will be possible and the rest of the process is the same. So that not an issue. You may just need to shim the processor to get it to make solid contact."

So I need to know what thickness must the copper shim be. Do I have to put it between the die and the IHS? Do I have to apply thermal paste between the shim and the IHS? Thanks in advance.

Hey man i was thinking about trying it to i got one board i got here with the CXD5302 wanted to give it a go and see what happens ill update if i get around to it but let me know if you ever actually get to the IHS portion im wondering how that will all play out as well!

I did do a little pretest nothing special jsut took a standard IHS i had made sure it was spotless put some mx on the die and pressed it down internal the die hits and spreads as it should so i mean i guess the question is will it hit the heatsink plate the same way anyways soon as i find a super low hour use board iw as going to try to put this chip on it for a premium build.... Not sure when that will happen find one every once in a while 20 hours or under that will be the one!
