Deus Ex Human Revolution Directors Cut (Black screen issue)

I have a retail disc of the game (BLUS31317). I get black screen but it doesn't seem frozen because if I hold the ps button on my controller for more than 5 seconds - it turns off. Also PS3 turns off normally after pressing the power once. No sound as well, just black screen after loading the game.

I tried to load it regularly on XMB, create an .ISO and extract the game folder. Same result, just black screen. The create ISO and extract game folder were both 100% success so I didn't think it was a bad disc.

I am on rebug 4.82 with cobra enabled and multiman 4.82 with webman mod.

Any ideas? This is the only game that doesn't work on me so far. I looked up on other posts and someone had the same issue but using the BLES version. Apparently the fix was to upgrade from rogero 4.50 to habib 4.70. Maybe there's a way for it to work on 4.82?

Have you tryed to uninstall the gamedata and savegame/s of that game and try again ?

All i can say is i played the euro release (BLES) in ISO format and did work like a charm, not a single problemu was found

I just checked the hdd0/game folder and the game data blus31317 doesn't exist. The black screen happens when you load the game. I guess it was not installing any gamedata or saves while on blackscreen.

Did the BLES version in ISO format worked on rebug 4.82?

Check gamesaves too, there are a lot of games that creates one (or more) gamesaves automatically when the game boots for first time
If the game crashes at booting... that gamesave is corrupted...and the next times you try to boot the game it loads the corrupted gamesave... so the game never boots... but the culprit is the gamesave

Your problem is not related with the firmware version, the game is old (doesnt requires higher firmwares versions), i played it on 4.46 iirc

My bet is your ISO has some problem, which tool did you use to create it ?

Ok so I deleted all gamedata and savedata on my ps3. I made sure that hdd0/game and hdd0/home/00000002/savedata are both empty and leave out folders for movian, rebug and multiman. Then, I restarted to test the game disc but still black screen. The hdd light stops blinking when the game is loaded.

I used multiman 4.82 to create .ISO and extract the game folder of the retail disc. Both are 100% success and didn't show any errors. Any way to verify if I had a bad disc game?

If you want to create the ISO from the bluray disc... try to create the ISO with irisman
The resulting ISO file is not the same than the ISOs created with multiman

You can also move the game folder/files (in JB format, not ISO) to your PC and do a IRD check of them
Get the IRD of that game from here and use the tool advised on main page to do the IRD verification http://jonnysp.bplaced.net/

If the IRD verification is passed successfully (without errors) it means the files are exactly like the ones inside the original bluray disc

And after that you can create the ISO in PC with rudi rastelli "PS3 iso tools", in it you can choose 2 different ISO formats, because internally it uses two different methods
-makeps3iso (the same result than doing the ISO with irisman)
-ps3geniso (the same result than doing the ISO in multiman)

So I created 2 .ISO using Irisman. The other has 4 split .ISO and the other is a regular 1 file .ISO. Still getting black screen on both.

So I downloaded 3 other Deus Ex versions and just loaded the game folders. Here's the result:

BLES01928 - 17.1gb - directors cut (duplex) - blackscreen
BLUS31317 - 15.2gb - directors cut (my retail disc) - blackscreen
BLUS30476 - 4.85gb - regular version (PSFR33) - blackscreen
BLES01150 - 12.6gb - regular version (duplex) - works 100%

IRD results:

BLES01928 - The BIGFILE & CACHE are not split so they didn't matched the IRD file.
BLUS31317 - Valid. All green.
BLUS30476 - The BIGFILE are not split so they didn't matched the IRD file.
BLES01150 - Valid. All green and 1 not required (BIGFILE)

I really wanted the directors cut version to work. So IRD says my retail disc is 100% working. I can't seem to understand why I can't get a working directors cut version. Any ideas why?

The BIGFILE and CACHE should be splitted (in parts of 1.99GB each). The files are splitted originally
Like in this IRD, this one is right ---> http://jonnysp.bplaced.net/info.php?file=ird/BLES01928-C9CC7ACC89CA976BF508A4BDD519C235.ird#files

I always use makeps3iso to create the ISO on PC
Usually i rip games to remove foreign languages, but i guess with this one i could not modify anything (because everything is inside that BIGFILE and there was no tools to unpack and rebuild it)

Edit:
Is not allowed to talk about downloaded games in the forum

I can try to use makeps3iso for the BLES directors cut version on my PC. When I created it on irisman, both bigfile and cache didn't split in 2gb parts - I saw it on the interface while building the ISO.

However on my retail disc, it does have the split 2gb files and matches the IRD. Any ideas on why the retail disc doesn't work? I'm tempted to reformat my PS3 or downgrade to 4.81 just to do some additional testing.

Maybe the problem is not the ISO after all
When i have this kind of problems (where i have no idea whats happening) what i do is to delete everything related with the game, specially the files that are loaded at the time the game boots:
-gamedata
-savedata
-trophies

I delete them by official ways (triangle over the icon ---> delete) or with a filemanager manually (and after the manual deletion i enter recovery menu to use "restore filesystem" to fix the corrupted icon of the trophies installation)

In your case, because you had several versions/regions of the game, be sure to delete also the gamedata/savedata/trophies from the other too because maybe the game loads them independant of the region

Also... additionally (this is paranoid mode, and there is a good explain for this but is long)
If you try to boot the game and it fails... sometimes you can "clear" the hdd cache partition (dev_hdd1) by booting a different game
This way is imposible for the game to load any file from "cache" partition (because the other game cleaned it)

---------
And other than that... i dunno... have you tryed to boot the ISO from internal hdd ?

Thanks for all the help.

So finally I got to work now by downgrading back to rebug 4.81.2.

I also deleted all savegame, trophies and gamedata. Then, I ran the "restore filesystem". Same blackscreen so I decided to reformat the PS3. After the reformat, it still didn't work. So, I went and downgraded to rebug 4.81.2. After the downgrade, I went ahead and do a reformat.

So that fixed it. It works now! I guess the issue is with rebug 4.82 because it is LITE? Are there known games that doesn't work on 4.82? I'm not entirely sure but maybe there is a setting in 4.82 that can fix it?

Uhhh, that sounds very weird, this is the first time i heard abut a game that works in an older custom firmware version but not in newers
Maybe the problem was in multiman/webman and not in the firmware

It is very weird indeed because it is the only game backup or retail disc that doesnt work for me on 4.82.

Well I did a reformat when I was on 4.82. I put in the game disc right away without installing multiman/webman/rebug toolbox and still blackscreen.

I did the same on a freshly reformat 4.81.2 then it worked. I guess I will stick with this 4.81.2 till I finish the game. It would be nice if someone can test the directors cut version on 4.82.

I have only used the method of "restore PS3 " under system settings and a simple upgrade system update via USB to downgrade to 4.81.2

Are there other options I can try? How about the "toggle product mode"? Maybe thats a better way to do a fresh install of cfw 4.82? My PS3 is originally on ofw 3.55

Not sure what you can do after this point, but most ideas that comes to mind are to try to catch the bug (i guess there is a bug somewhere but not sure where)

Not sure if you did mention it (or i forgot) but the method used to load the backup could give different results, i guess you are mounting it with cobra... and not sure if using webman/sman plugins as a proxy

An alternative is to mount the ISO with something like managunz, but before that disabling cobra (in rebug toolbox settings)
This way managunz should mount the ISO by using the internal "mamba" code that works as a replacement of cobra
If that works in 4.82... then the firmware cant be the problem

Edit:
And after that you can do another test repeating the same... but with cobra enabled (in rebug toolbox settings)
This way managunz is going to mount the ISO by redirecting the work to cobra (so managunz acts as a proxy)
If that works in 4.82... then the firmware cant be the problem + cobra cant be the problem

Yes, I was mounting the game with cobra enabled on webman on 4.82. I also mounted using multiman using the extracted ISO and extracted game folder. Even mounted directly on XMB with the game disc but none of them worked.

The only thing I haven't tried was to mount with cobra disabled on 4.82. Although I did reformat it while on 4.82 so by default cobra should be disabled and it still didn't worked.

Thanks I will try managunz with 4.82. I actually did the same test with 4.81.2 with cobra disabled & enabled. Both worked.

Hi JYA, just tried it too, no luck, don't know why it doesn't work. The BR itself works, but the iso I created doesn't (it worked on earlier version of the CFW).
Seems to be the only game to have this problem.

Your bluray disc worked on 4.82? Mine doesnt work for both bluray and extracted iso. For now I am on 4.81.2 for them to work
