PS3 dev_flash brick after gameboot mod

Running REBUG 4.84 on a CECHA01, I decided to give the Multi Gameboot Mod v1.12 a try. Already having the Classic Coldboot / Gameboot mod in place, I replaced the custom_render_plugin.rco, removed game_ext_plugin.sprx and added the audio files to the hdd0 gameboot folder. Not to my liking, i went ahead and removed the new files, replaced them with the classic mod, then the issues began.

The system would boot games but was unable to return to the xmb, crashing when attempted. I went ahead and deleted/recopied the cold boot files to dev_blind. Now it will only boot to a black screen...but can reach recovery boot. Things attempted so far, in no particular order:
  • Restore file system (goes blank/reboots after a few mins)
  • Restore default settings (sits for hours, no change)
  • Rebuild database
  • Restore PS3 system (goes blank/reboots after a few mins)
  • System Update - redownloaded and attempted to update with rebug 4.84 but receiving invalid PUP errors; tested with other flash drives, all formated correctly with fat32 and proper file structure, all caps, etc.
  • Hot swapped same size HDD Debug Utility backup i had, same issues
  • Newly formatted a drive and inserted to get firmware message, only black screen
Presumably, the dev_flash is hosed? i do have my eid root key backed up if that matters at all. Not sure what to do from here but based on what i've read here and otherwise, my technical competencies are lesser on this matter.

  1. Does anyone have any good next steps to try out?
  2. Does anyone offer a flash/repair service for something like this?

if you converted to DEX at some point, keep in mind you'll need the DREX version of Rebug or you won't be able to install the firmware.

I'd suggest to try that, or try with the latest Evilnat firmwares

Going to dump flash and rebackup the drive. Never know with me.

Will start a new thread if need be, but want to make sure I get this right: dumping flash with MM, how do I ensure poke is enabled to get through the hv and have the full bootldr dump?
