DKWDRV

PS2 DKWDRV Unified PS1DRV for all PS2 models 1.7.6h

This new method to play PS1 games on a PS2 is AMAZING! Been looking for something like this since years. All we got was that POS of POPstarter that needed patches and there was a guy who did fixes but he asks for a donation everytime he releases a new update so not a choice for me (even though i already donated him some but some of the fixes still had bugs).
I really hope the devs continue improving DKWDRV, if they add VMC and the fix for audio then it would be perfect.

THANKS a lot for those involved in making this, i dont know who is the person making this but im really grateful. Cheers.

Maybe POPStarter would be better if people like you wouldn't downtalk on something that you/they will not be able to create in a decade and then you want want want want and everything for free... Gimme gimme gimme...
Lol found the POPstarter fanboy...
It doesnt matter if i was able to create a program or not, get down your horse snowflake. The emu stopped and its not my fault, its still a piece of shit just like your opinion.
F%$# you pussy.

No, I am just a PS2-Scener since over 2 decades and have seen users like you before.

You contributed WHAT exactly to the scene?
You talk bad about projects and not in any constructive way.

It's also not my fault that you have to resort to name calling and ad hominem, because you have no actual arguments, crybaby.

The Scene doesn't need you.

I know i was very rude and im sorry. I just had a bad day thats all... you know life stuff.

Well i did a lot of tests and most of the games work while others crash (probably due to lack of audio channels) so im not updating the list anymore, but here is my research so far:

PS2 Model: SCPH-79001
USB used: Kingston 14GB and Sandisk 16GB for all the tests in FAT32 of course.

In some of my tests i noticed that games that got stuck is because they were fragmented, some worked after defragmented while others still crashed nonetheless... This is common sense of course to always defragment the games.

I KNOW THAT XA/CDDA AUDIO NEEDS TO BE ADDED, I WILL POST THE MISSING AUDIO IN REPORT ANYWAY.

(List Updated: 30/4/2024)
So far this is all my list:

Ace Combat 3: perfect but music is not present anywhere.

Aura Battler Dunbine: it works well but as soon as you fight 2 or more times the 3D graphics become corrupted for some reason.

Alundra: works flawlessly.

Bloody Roar 2: perfect but no music in battles and in fmvs (also some flickering in the beast bars in some stages)

Breath Of Fire IV: perfect, but missing music.

Bushido Blade 2: perfect but no music anywhere.

Crash Team Racing: perfect but missing some audios and music.
Aura Battler Dunbine: it works well but as soon as you fight 2 or more times the 3D graphics become corrupted for some reason.

Chrono Cross: works good (a bit too low on the framerate or its just how the game is?) there is music and effects everywhere, but in the status screen characters and menu flickers A LOT. I dont know if this is how the PS2 emulates this game or its a problem of DKWDRV.

Devilman: perfect. but no audio in fmvs

Digimon World 2: perfect but no music in fmvs.

Dragon Ball Z - Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu: perfect but no music in main menu.

DOOM: gets stuck in the first "LOADING..." screen.

Final Fantasy Tactics: perfect except no audio in fmvs.

Goujin Senki: gets stuck in the first FMV but you can skip it and it will work fine.

Gundam Battle Assault: perfect but no music in battles

Gundam Battle Assault 2: crash after the Playstation logo.

Khamrai: plays fairly well, there is a notable drop in FPS in most areas, i dont know if this is how it behaves on a PS1.

Lunar SSSC: very SLOW fps.

Lunar 2: missing tilesets and sprites in game.

Need For Speed High Stakes: perfect

Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed: gets stuck in the EA logo, probably due to lack of XA/CDDA channels.

Real Robot Battle Line: works perfectly except no audio in the fmv

Samurai Deeper Kyo: perfect but no music.

Street Fighter Alpha 3: perfect, missing music.

Suikoden 2: works perfectly.

TEKKEN 3: has got wrong 3D models.

Tenchu 1 and 2: works perfectly

The King Of Fighters 99: same as SFA3.

Twisted Metal 2: works perfectly, missing music.

Twisted Metal 4: same as TM2.

Twisted Metal Small Brawl: no music and fmvs get stuck. but its pefectly playable if you skip fmvs.

Vagrant Story: works perfectly.

Xenogears: perfect except no audio in fmvs.

Hello Everyone!

Just stopping by to congratulate (and praise!) everyone involved with this project!. i used POPs for the longest time. I currently use Tonyhax int 1.4.8 + ps1modeneg.elf for booting ntsc psx backups on my 300004R, this works super well but it is a bit tedious. i will be checking this thread often. when sound is added/fixed i will help with testing.

Take care and good day everyone!

Question for the devs or those that have tested PS USB loading with different models, is there one that is better than other or recommended to buy?
I found 1 slim 79k model but it was not working correctly and had a modchip, so I passed on buying it

the PowerPC chip and the underlying emulator (DECKARD) didnt suffer any major changes.

The DECKARD emulator is exactly the same binary on all the models that use the PPC CPU. the only thing that changes on it is the compilation date printed to the UART.

on the other hand, the PPC CPU was merged with the EE and the SPU on the 79k model.

There are some games that broke due to that change IIRC. however, it is surely not a considerable ammount of games

I bought a 90k model at the flea market, it is compatible with FMCB, first time I see one like this
I tried to launch Saru Get You and after the PS logo it shows a black screen with a red caution or stop circle it it has some japanese text but is faded and most of it not showing
Is this an anti piracy thing?
Update
Seems like the game has anti modchip protection, but I'm sure this console has no modchip.

Greetings. I always like to test something new. I downloaded version 1.7.5 when selecting games from USB and says sorry, I have a slim 70008. I would like to see an OPL scale project

Yeah.
Sound at least in FMVs will be a great add to this ongoing project.

BTW with a new version 1.7.6 games like Carmageddon, Hexen are starting to become more playable.
Thanks.
