I'm posting this because I think that without a separate thread it'll be missed by most people.

Bguerville maintains the bgtoolset site, hosted at ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com, which is the tool needed to install CFW on any (supported) PS3 with firmware version 3.56+ (those with 3.55 or below can be flashed to CFW without any exploit).
According to Bguerville he pays for hosting once every 3 years and the next payment is due this October. At the moment there are not enough donations to renew hosting for the next 3 year period and if there are not enough donations by then the entire site will go down, which means you will not be able to install CFW on any PS3 with FW version 3.56+ except by using a hardware flasher.
From what I understand (please correct me if I'm wrong) work on support for OFW 4.89 has been suspended because it's not worth the effort if the entire site is not going to remain up for more than a few months.

Also note that there are two different ps3xploit sites - **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) and ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com, and each one has its own donation page.

If you want to donate make sure you're donating through the correct website! donations on the .com site will not go to bgtoolset and donations on the .net site will not go to HEN.

This is a little confusing still, as we do share the donations.

As bguerville explained, there are historical reasons as to why we have 2 separate donate links and use 2 separate domains.

At the end of the day, we share the donations between them. To make it less confusing, yes, if you donate to the .net site, that goes directly to bguerville, and if you donate to .com that goes directly to myself.

Both of us have different expenses and both of those expenses are taken care of through the collective donations received.

I don't know if its less confusing now, but that's how it is.

Well I now fully understand and I am happy I donated. Thankfully I was making 2 donations and as I have used homebrew enabler I am glad I contributed. My second donation will be the large donation and I will be sending this to the .net site as I use custom firmware far more.

Thank you both for all your efforts in keeping the modding scene alive.

I haven't been able to explore this site much but is their another page with this info? If not is it possible to make something like a "pinned" thread that won't eventually be buried?

For instance make one specific post with donation info for all the devs (including psx ps2 ect.). Then place it front and center. This way the info is readily available and it should help place the seed so to speak to donate to the developers.
 
Paypal unfortunality forbidden in some countries due govenment related political problems. Who people wants donate but lives those countries where Paypal banned. Developers should create another alternatives like Patreon or Cryptocurrencies.

Last I checked, earlier today, ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com donations amounted to just under 800 bucks, the target being about 1200 as I explained in the other thread.
 
I just learnt the funding issue when I'm about to use bgtoolset, which is currently down. Really love your works!
 
I'm a newbie to jailbreaking and have taken all the steps to ensure my PS3 is compatible and able to install CFW. When I start the process by going to BG Toolset>Main Site, I get "This site is currently under maintenance. Please try again in a few hours...". Will it be under maintenance until the donation goal has been met?

Can I just buy the software for 1200, I want to help with this if y'all need it. The web hosting deal is unfortunate, but the only option seems to be to rebuild it.

This thread is outdated. There are no financial issues atm afaik. The main issues atm is that all the ps3xploit domains have been flagged by spamhaus and removed. You can still install HEN because it has a mirror on github but for CFW it's more complicated since bguerville is going through some family issues and doesn't have the time to fix and maintain the toolset atm. It will return when it does, there's no eta. Currently there are two alternatives being worked on - the first is Flash Writer, which already exists but only works on version 4.85. It's currently being updated to support 4.89. It's self-hosted, so you don't rely on 3rd party websites that can go down without warning, but it's more difficult to use since it requires you to set up a web server on your local computer. It's on the final stages of closed testing and should be released to open beta in the near future. The second tool is HEN Flash Patcher, which is somewhat easier to use because you just run it locally on the PS3 itself. Since it's being written from scratch it needs a lot more thorough testing and the author atm will only give it to testers who have a hardware flasher and can recover if their console gets bricked.

EDIT: Also, even if we wanted to nobody can sell you the bgtoolset software because nobody has it except bguerville and he hasn't been here for the past 6 months. Flash Writer is relatively close in function to bgtoolset and it's available for free (albeit not updated yet to support the latest OFW).
