PS3 Donor components/HDD data

hey,

years ago i had a ps3 Phat(CECHG03) that would often die and we would reheat with an airgun just to get it going again - eventually it died for good.

This was ~8 years ago.

Since then and for the past few years i have had a very good IR rework station at my disposal at work.
I've also had a good success rate re-balling/re-attaching various IC's back to PCB's.

Now what id like to do is get another CECHG03 PS3 and donor the necessary components over from my original system to access my original HDD for game saves (well my sons first mine craft maps!)

I remember reading about this being done but cannot find previous info.
I know various keys have to match between the CPU, GPU & NAND for it to be able to access the HDD

Question is do i have to donor over more than just the original CPU, GPU & NAND to access the original HDD?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Yes, there are some components "paired", are the CPU (CELL), SYSCON, and FLASH
To be more accurate, are the contents of flash what is paired (metldr and bootldr), so i guess there is no need to replace the NAND chips but his contents, but i dont have a good understanding about it so i cant help much with it. Also, if you have a IR rework station probably you prefer to replace the NANDS instead of wasting time fighting to rebuild his contents

For the GPU (RSX) you should not worry, is not paired
After all the overheats of the past maybe the RSX is damaged, but initially i would keep it... there is no need to replace it until you have a proof that is bad

Oh ok, I had thought RSX had to be paired too, that is good to know, thanks!
I have done similar with a tagged xbox regarding the NANDS but yes, it would be much easier to swap them over.

Unfortunately the PCB has a few slight delaminate bubbles and is warped.
I wasn't aware of the cap mod but will do this if i go ahead with it all anyway.

The bluray daughterboard, we use to say that is "married" with the main motherboard

Initially you could take the bluray entirelly from the "old" PS3 and use it in the "new" PS3... im not sure if this is going to be enought to "marry" it thought
In the worst scenario there is a procedure to do the remarry of the bluray daughterboard, so you should not worry about it, this is the minor of your problems

This is still in testing phase, we can only recommend that this is another option to try to diagnose YLOD, not to actually suggest this "IS" the only fix. We need to be careful how we word this when we offer this as a suggestion.

To the OP post some pics and/or vids if u actually go through with the swap, not many go through with doing all these swaps so its good for future reference.
