PS2 doubt install opl in empty mc and ulaunchelf in usb flash drive

Is there an app that can transform a pendrive (USB Flash Drive) so that it is recognized by the PS2 as a memory card and be possible to open and use ulaunchelf to install OPL, funtuna, apps on an empty memory card?
or a memory card with a microSD slot to make it easier to copy the OPL to the microSD and insert it into the MC to be read on the PS2

Usb flash drive can not be recognized by ps2 as memory card. just buy a premade memory card that contains opl and ule. And why are you always using in post names doubt? why?

#1 - you can only boot from usb with some modchips (not all) or via a payload using a memory card or a DVD.

#2 - there is the "memcardpro 2" which is quite expensive

if you have an empty MC, i think the cheapest and easiest way is either to get someone for install the payload to your memory card, or try FreeDVDBoot to launch ulaunchELF, or buy a preloaded FMCB memory card from aliexpress, they are dirt cheap. grab a combo with a MX4SIO that is also dirt cheap

Or if your ps2 is modded, see if your modchip allows direct usb booting, if yes you could just place ulaunchelf as BOOT/BOOT.ELF

I don't remember much about the ps2, but I remember using a micro sd card to store games on one memory card mx2 or mx4sio, then the other card with opl, etc. I could save to. I did have a modchip at one time, but I could never figure out if it was possible to save directly to it. probably not without something running in the background.

My PS2 slim 90k uses Matrix infinity 1.93
If your matrix is original, you can open the modchip menu and change "boot mode" to DEV1

Then format your pendrive as FAT32, create a folder called "BOOT" and place a payload( i recommend ulaunchELF) as "BOOT.ELF"

all in uppercase

If your modchip is fake this setting will not stick(will reset back) and won't work

I'm thinking it's probably fake. afaik, the last legit matrix infinities were discontinued like in 2006?

edit: I was also going to say that iirc, 1.93 was an update to fix a bug with Taiwanese versions of the slim. all fakes say 1.93, I believe.

I would say so, the majority of matrix out there are fakes, specially if used in a slim90k

In any case does not hurt to try, it should take 5-10 mins to get you setup. I have experienced some fakes that can save settings for a few use cases until they just stop doing it and reset to default.

If it fails, your options are what i said earlier, but since you have a modchip, either you get a burned copy of ulaunchelf, or somebody with a modded ps2 installs the payload to your MC, or buy a premade MC from any supplier

There might be some other options such as a memory card reader but those are probably obscure for your usage case

Older / less quality clones actually say 1.99, i have one such from my childhood ps2. newer clones say 1.93 since people caught on with the 1.99 being 100% fake

The original chip could be upgraded via software, meaning there are legit matrix out there running 1.93 without being tied to a taiwanese ps2. so your best bet is really just to try it out, as i said, some clones can do custom settings for a while, idk why. One of mine did until it stopped doing it

I owned a legit matrix infinity back in 2006, and I remember the update menu vaguely. I think either that one or the wiikey v1 had a bikini-clad woman with no head on the update disc, which had to be padded due to how small updates were. I never updated to 1.93. I think I only updated to 1.91 before the disc drive died, because it didn't seem to be worth wasting a disc or something just to update for a bug that had nothing to do with my system.

my intention was to install opl and ulaunchelf on a new empty mc without depending on another mc with opl and ulaunchelf and without depending on an optical drive dvd reader

More easy copy files Pc for mc or pendrive for mc

dunno then. I've personally been out of the loop for ps2 stuff for a while. I got back in the loop with loading via micro-sd card, but those things seemed to fragment almost every time you added a new game, at least for me, so I had to defragment a lot. never used the system really, so I sold it and the hacking stuff to my mom's boss.

Either you try your luck with your modchip to see if it does USB booting, as i mentioned above, or you need a Memcard pro2 which is expensive (60 USD w/ shipping excluding tax).

Try your luck with your modchip, or else you are out of luck if you dont want to get an external resource. The PS2 has no USB based softmod exploits available

I was not on the scene back then as i used to be a classic xbox user, unfortunately i missed all this fun :D, impossible to get a good modchip nowadays

60 usd doesn't sound too bad. I think I bought the memory card adapter for the ps3 for $55. I don't know if it works with ps2 cards though as I have a superslim.

Really isn't, altough i called it expensive for what PS2 are worth nowadays, here 60 USD gets you a fullset ps2 slim with a controller and a FMCB card LOL. And also i figured the user could be located in a country with high import duties

The product is pretty cool, it also supports emulating PS1 and interacts with the ODEs available for the PS1.
It even has wifi, so you can manage the files remotely, and i believe it supports ps1 and ps2 mem card images on the same sdcard, and it will auto detect the console

I actually bought the ps3 save adapter to get some psx saves on to the ps3. psx work fine, dunno about ps2 until someone tells me that they work. I got my lv 99 xenogears save on the system. I'm surprised the game is only $5 on psn, because the game is normally around $200 retail-wise, which is way beyond my price range. I used to make some decent money, but being on disability, that's like a third of my monthly check. insane how much some of these older games now cost.

I believe it does work, i remember reading about it on a guide to transfer gran turismo 3/4 saves to the PS3 for some bonus that GT5 had.

Indeed, unfortunately "retro" and "classic" have gone the same way as "gaming", anything with those words becomes 3x more expensive than otherwise would be, even cheap crap becomes less-cheap with any of those words.

Online stores don't really depreciate, a lot of developers just set a price, lower it after 2-3 years and then forget about the listing, in the past, that used to make online stores pricey for older stuff. Nowadays you can get deals like you mentioned.

I hope everything goes well for you!

it looks like you're right. it does work with ps2 memory cards. I just found my ps2 memory cards, no issues, but I'm using a superslim, so the saves won't work with placeholders afaik. an older, phat ps3, yes. I also just found my pstv. somehow it was sitting in front of its box. I don't remember it being there! I plan to sell it.

pstv... talk about another thing that became overpriced overnight

I missed buying one for like 30 bucks complete in the box, but i was still an intern and had just gotten vita.
Now on ebay a complete in box pstv is like 300 bucks (??), or just the console for 100+. Crazy

You probably will get your money back on that thing

Vitas have doubled in price, yet are still half of a pstv.

yeah, I'm trying to sell all my hacked consoles, and just going legit. that doesn't mean I'll stop with the compiles, just won't be able to test them outside of an emulator if I need to. I still have a fair bit of knowledge about most consoles as well, except for the original xbox and the switch. I can still compile for them though, not too difficult.
