PS3 Duracell PS3 Extenders are great value for modders

I mentioned this elsewhere but then thought it might be a worth a thread of it's own.

From a modders point of view these Duracell extenders are actually a great deal. I got these Duracell PS3 extenders for £6.50 each when I bought mine. This listing drops to half price fairly often https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Duracell...Hub-fuer-PS3-Wireless-Controller/331779725674 . Right now its 30% off so it puts them under £10 with free shipping to Germany.

These used to sell for up to $80 in shops back in the day, or something crazy like that.

I bought 3 of them for under 30euro including shipping. I think they would make a nice case for lots of things, especially console related. It could even fit 2 x 3.5 inch HDD with room for cables/adaptors/power supplies etc.

For under £10 each You get:
  • a nice ABS case in the style of a PS3
  • 2x red/blue LEDs
  • a 2amp 5v power supply
  • a circuit board that provides the handshake to charge two PS3 controllers
  • a card reader circuit board
  • a 4 port USB HUB circuit board (3 external , 1 internal)
  • Various short USB cables.
I took the insides out of one of mine and added a tonne of stuff inside.
  • 10 port USB HUB
  • Rack for 3 x 2.5 inch hdds/ssds
  • USB to SATA adaptors
  • HDMI Splitter / HDCP stripper
  • USB to Audio adaptor
  • GL.inet gl-mt300n-v2 mini travel router

A bit messy I know but no one will see it :D

This a complete bodge job, with bits I had lying around. For example I made my 3x HDD/SDD rack out of 4 of these 60mm angle brackets:

That's pretty amazing. I don't suppose you know of any similar accessories designed for the phat ps3 models. Because something of a similar matching for my A model would be excellent.
 
I don't know of anything like that for phats, but you could just have one of these next to a phat as a separate box and it would be ok really as a standalone box.

I dont actually attach mine to the side of my slim as its a bit higher than the console, you are meant to put these under the console to raise it up to the same level.

They do have a bit of a design flaw if you plan on putting them right next to the console like they are meant to be, it has this ledge that fits under the console, but IMO it blocks the air vents so I removed the ledge, leaving a little on the front and back so you cant tell when it's in place

That's actually a really good point. It would make a nice box to sit beside the ps3 and host my hdmi splitter/hdcp stripper. Plus airflow must never be obstructed. Gonna keep my eye out for one now.
 
I had one of these splitters and it fit in really well, with the LEDs poking out too.

Then I got one of these to bring the other port around to the back so no soldering was required for those tiny HDMI pins.

The cool thing is that this all fits in underneath the existing USB hub. The splitter can be powered via the extra USB hub too as its 5 volt.

I planned to extend the wires on the other LED and have that poking out the back too, but never got around to it.
