Ishightly remember that the last OFW I had before 4.85 was 4.66


It's a good sign, you flashed the nofsm patch over 4.85 which is your active ros proven by your system status (it boots to XMB).

Also, remove any BD disc on your system.

It was booting to XMB before you formatted the hdd ?
And now after you formatted the hdd it doesnt shows XMB ?
 
System is working without any issue... After and before restoring system... But I can't install any kind of firmware.
Ok, i was wondering if replacing the hdd (temporally) by a different one could change something... not sure is just a blind shot

Another detail you should consider is the syscon chip (different than the NAND chips) is always working, even when you power off the PS3 syscon chip enters in a "low state" mode, but is active, monitoring the button presses and things like that
Also, it have a memory, and it can keep a record of what you was trying to do in the previous boot
Incase you was doing something weird in the previous boot (or as a consequence of a firmware crash) syscon could enter in "idiotic mode" and could do weird things
The golden rule to know if syscon is active is by looking at the PS3 leds... if there is some led lighted (like the red standby led) it means syscon is working

Not sure if what im telling could be related with the problem, but you should "reset" syscon in between boots, this is achieved by disconnecting the power cord at the back (or in PS3 fat models pressing the ON/OFF big buton at the back, next to the cord)
Keep the PS3 OFF (without electricity) for 1 minute, this drains electricity from all motherboard components and syscon resets
 
I'm having more or less the same problem with my CECHC 60gb fat PS3.

I installed the 4.86.1 (HFW) Hybrid Firmware twice per recommendation.
After that I went to bgtoolkit page with my web browser.. It detected that my PS3 supported CFW.
I dumped to USB and ran a check with PyPS3Checker which revealed no errors.
I then restarted the PS3, cleared my cookies and returned to the bgtookkit page.
I selected the download patch via https option and applied the patch successfully.
I then restarted the PS3, dumped the memory and checked it with PyPS3Checker.. Again no errors. bgtoolkit now said I had COBRA syscalls and the ROS banks had changed.
I then restarted the PS3 and attempted to install REBUG_4.86.1_LITE CFW.. It successfully copied the CFW but gave a corruption error after copying.. I've tried other CFW with the same result.. The PS3 is otherwise functional.. I can't reinstall the HFW for the same reasons already mentioned in other posts.

Maybe my summery will help someone.

I patched with latest tools and all verified ok. Rebooted and tried to install Reebug 4.86 CFW but with xmb it returns an error message of corrupted data. If I try in recovery it doesn't see the update and returns the ffff.ffff same as op. Official updates are not recognised with either method

we are currently looking into this and will report back. In the meantime, please do not change the state of the PS3 so when we figure out the issue, you can use the toolset to fix it.
