PS2 ESR Stopped Booting Discs That Once Booted

Hey guys! Hoping you can help me figure this out because it's driving me nuts!

I happen to be one of those people that prefer discs rather than using OPL and booting from the HDD.
I figured out how to patch and burn discs for use with ESR so I decided to burn a bunch of them.
Each disc was tested and confirmed to boot up just fine as well as I made sure to play them for about 10mins or so to get through many of the different screens.

I repeated this process for several games, probably around 50. Once confirmed working, I put all of them in cases and printed labels and cover art. Obviously this took several hours. All of this has been within the past week so these are extremely new discs.

However now when I try to play them, 90% of them seem to no longer work with ESR. All of them trigger and load ESR but either get stuck on the purple or blue screen or make it past that but stay on a black screen and never load.

It seems to make no difference if I am using composite or component cables and I have tried on 3 different televisions from an old Sony Wega to a Sony 1080p XBR.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Test those discs. How many and what kind of errors they have. Maybe they just start dying.

If You ODD reading DVD+R, switch to DVD+M (DVD M-Disc) because those are not organic and not degradating.

What is Your model BTW?

Hey there! Thanks for your reply.

As stated above, the discs worked perfectly the very first time I tested them right after burning them. However now they either get stuck on the purple, blue or black screen when attempting to load with ESR Beta R9b.

As far as my PS2, it is the fat SCPH-39001 model with:

Browser 1.20
CD Player 1.20
PS Driver 1.10
DVD Player 2.12U

To further note, I have tested these games with ERS version r10f which yielded the same results.

the only games that seem to boot up every time with all of the versions of ESR are Gradius V and Phantasy Star Generations 2 Ages 2500.

For those following this, while I can't exactly explain why it happens, I figured it out…

How I came to the conclusion was the 2 games that work flawlessly. Both of those were converted from .bin/.cue to DVD-ROM and patched for use with ESR using ERS Disc Patcher GUI v0.24a.

The games that initially worked after first burn but now do not were patched for ESR using ESR Patcher Pro.

While I am happy to report this was the fix, it means I have to burn all of these discs and print all of the disc labels again lol.

Hope this thread helps someone else down the road.

The different Patcher was definitely not the "fix". It simply didn't read the old discs properly anymore and new ones are in a better condition.
