PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

1002 → Probably RSX NECs
1004 → When Power On but something causes Power to fail, for example touching some components on the board, especially near the Power / Reset board connector (COK-001 / COK-002)
3003 → Power CELL or probably CELL NECs
I have replaced all the nec tokins with tantalums and i have removed all of them and checked with multimeter before replacing all checked ok and within spec
I also put jumper wires on the side where bga chips are

Put your voltmeter on diode mode and check each fuse - they should read the same as a bare wire. Anything different than a bare wire reading reverse the voltmeter leads and check again. If it reads as an open connection = N.G.

what would be the typical reading in diode mode
so black probe on ground and red probe on one side of the fuse
also if the fuse has continuity, beep mode in ohms would this mean it is good

No power/pull plug on motherboard. One probe on one side of fuse the other probe on the other side of fuse. Beep I assume on you meter means the same as if you touch both probes together which means fuse is good.

Yep as thought
Of course no power connected. Lol
I'll do it later
But don't think it's the fuses

Fuses, all checked and are ok

These are My codes

1002 = RSX VRAM Power Fail
1004 = AC/DC Power Fail
3003 = Power Fail

I measured the voltage at JL6208, I kept My red probe on the point and turned on and the voltaged went up to about 0.5V
According to the data this should be 1.2V
I checked here because it was the main power rail for the RSX
As this is low I am guessing it is a good place to start, Can anyone give any ideas what can cause the voltage to be low

Many Thanks

Look at these files and check every point and report back what each reading is.

Looks like your power ic's are borked.

PLEASE PLEASE feed back the readings for each testpoint, dont say i've done it, need info from you!

hi, i have a strange problem... my cok-002 turn on stay on so green light but nothing on screen and turn off after 2 minutes for no reason. the errlog command give no error. but using the temp command the rsx and cell give temp and the south bridge give 0°C. is the chip broken?

Look at this - https://imgur.com/a/G7Egapc

See what readings you get, anything lower on the 2M values is bad news.

Hi
Ok so I have gone through all the points and measured them
some of the points voltage I get different readings each time I turn the ps3 on
The ps3 has ylod and I have only a few seconds to get the reading
I notice after turning on and off I get a high reading but it takes time to get them
Some readings I get the same each time

JL6063some times gets to 1.1v but sometimes it is less about 0.3v
JL6103gets to 0.9v after turning on and off few times
JL6114 0.3 to 0.9v same after turning and off few times
JL9654 0.2v to 1.1v, some times gets to 1.4v
JX96010.4v but Gets to 1.2v after turning on and off few times
JL6201 0.2v to 1.8v, some times gets to 3.3v
JL6208 0.1v to 0.4v, sometimes gets to 0.4v but after turning on and off
JL60480.4v to 1.3v, sometimes gets to 1.3v but after turning on and off
JL60560.3, 0.9 but gets to 1.2v, sometimes gets to 1.2v but after turning on and off
JL9651 0.2v, gets to 1.1v after turning on and off
JL9656 0.2v to 1.1v, some times gets to 1.2v
JL6058 3.2v
JL60602.4v
JL60611.7v
JL96481.1v
JL9647 1.7v
JL96520.5 to 1.1v, sometimes gets to 1.1v but after turning on and off

Hi... could this be THE problem?

Ok, no
Strange...
If i go in safe mode i got the safe menu screen on tv so? Wtf? What is wrong with this?
now i nticed the ps3 turn off after the hard drive led blink. i have already tried to boot without hard drive and with a new hard drive but no luck

So whats the readings for your southbridge?

Its possible the Hd controller is broken?

As far as im aware there is no detection from syscon on the periphals that connect to the southbridge, so the HD controller could be faulty?

As you are in safe mode means the RSX is working and the HDMI chip is ok, other possible is faulty RAM on either the RSX or CELL

In safe mode, can you format a new drive? or system update?
