Yes from what I have Jovi RE8500 is not on production so I will suggest like minimum 2000 bottom watts with top minimum 400 w ir . Also top air seems more faster but need well calibration. All depends on technician that works with that rework station. He must operate with that. Some people have even better suggestion to create/modify later this station. I will say to do it from scratch but take time, it took 6 months to complete one single setup for one dual station with top hot air gun and bottom plate. I still have one ir6000, had ir6500, it took me few months to create a profile to desolder in good condition rsx but I couldn't keep board as nearly in factory and always burst when heat. 800w on bottom isn't enough to desolder lead free alloy in old ps3. Ir6500 and ir6000 can do ps4, probably ps5, less copper probably inside boards on slims ps3 , but phats don't even think to try. Just a note for starting this maximum time to desolder lead free is 8 minutes. If you don't manage to reach that you will burn board or blow rsx for sure.
If you find any Jovi RE8500 or new models will be better. Oh and none of YouTube profiles help, learn to use it manually and working with that in stages. You need to test few boards before you can start, need to understand well this process otherwise is a big loss.
Thank you for your help. I have to mention that here in my country I may not access to some models and ordering from outside isn't possible or get so expensive.
If I understand right, your advice is to assemble a bga machine myself instead of searching for a ready to use one? I think it is a nice idea because it should cost less and/or the result would be a handy tool.
Some people built it on eurotherm 2704 it can go on 2 zones and 3 zones, top can be either hot air or ir. All about right temperatures and right thermocouple beside ic. If controller is well calibrated you won't fail. If was possible I would build it up from scratch but as most people rushed to fix quickly 6 years ago. So stuck with what I have atm but still think to build second one with more options. Hot air and ir.

Looks like it is not as simple as I thought!
I am familiar with micro-controllers coding and building electronic stuff but have no idea where to start making this machine.
I have searched the internet about this but misinformations are all over everywhere making me confused.
Could you please help me with finding true information? Some trustworthy websites or documents about how these machines work? I'm not sure if there is any good tutorials for making the device from scratch.
Yes, 80 1002 indicates bad tokins. Wow, you had 2 of them?! The odds of that is VERY remote, but hey anything is possible. Do you do go though a lot of consoles or just lucky.
About the black screen in PS2 games, I get that too and so far have not been able to resolve it. I have been putting off troubleshooting the PS2 hardware. It's just sitting in a pile of other busted consoles waiting for me to muster the desire to troubleshoot. They will have to wait. I have reached my frustration limit and am in a cooling off period.
I have been reading the NEC/Tokin thread and I will give it a try with this A01, hope everything goes well and fix the PS2 games black screen.
This A01 PS3 I bought knowing it had YLOD, talking with the seller I suspected I could be bad caps, luckily I was right.
And I know this feeling, have been trying to fix an E01 MG for more than 5 months, something is wrong with the writing process to the NAND, the console works, but everything that needs to write to the NAND fails, even broke the NAND clip in my attempts to diagnose the problem, now it's collecting dust with a corrupted NAND.

No, its VERY unlikely to be bad tokins. Get the syscon errorlog before fixing what ain't broke.
May I ask how much of the Tokin thread you read? Because it sounds like you are under the impression it is the tokins. I would like to know what makes you think so.
EDIT:
To make things easier for newcomers I put this together. I suggest you read the FAQ and SYSCON tutorials. If you need more convincing, read the Tokin research and Statistical analysis I did of the tantalum thread.

The A01 I mentioned is the one I posted the logs, with lots of A0801002, the E01MG I don't think it's bad tokins, I was referring to the frustration limit you mentioned with the PS2 hardware troubleshooting, i have the same feeling with this unit and it's weird problems, lots of time and money invested and not even a single clue.
EDIT:
Now that you mentioned getting the erros, the SYSCON keep track of this kind of errors?
Like I mentioned, this E01MG PS3 works, but fail every time it writes to NAND, can I get the NAND write erros from SYSCON?
A few days ago I got a slim PS3 from a local tip shop, model CECH 2102A(mainboard SUR001, 40nm RSX so should be pretty okay), claiming it's not accepting disk but after it arrived I found everything was working(yay). So began the clean up and re-paste process. During the disassembly, the thermal grease was holding up the heatsink pretty hard and I used a hair dryer to soften it a bit, but still a quite visible bent on the mainboard. This happens all the time and I did this hair dryer trick all the time so I didn't think it will be a problem. However, after I put everything back I found this slim cannot boot and shows flashing red light with 3 beeps. Strangely there was no amber or yellow light, even for a short period. Desperately to find UART solder points and got the error codes, it were 3034 and 4102(the latter one could be wrong but 3034 is firm). Dang! I thought the bent of mainboard just ruined the BGA soldering point! To verify that, I externalised the PSU and laid the mainboard flat on the ground. During booting, I pressured the RSX/Cell with my fingers pretty hard, and it booted! Just my finger got burnt and can't keep pressing it but now I can confirm it's 100% solder contact problem.
Just about to shelf this poor thing, one of my friends joked about this by saying I should put a big rock on top of it. As a second thought, I tried to use the thermal pad came with the PS3 on the other components(power regulators probably), they're about 1-2 mm thick. I tried to place them around the edge of the RSX facing towards Cell, then carefully assembled the RF shields and firmly screw the bolts holding the heatsink. Putting the minimal components back and tried my luck, but this time viola! I can't believe I can turn it back on with this trick??! I'm still putting it on idle mode to see how long it works. But I think this temporary fix trick seems pretty useful if anyone knows it's 3034 error and wants to save something from the disk/game/eeprom. I would be very surprised if there's no one mentioned/tried this before.
What I did was merely this, and later applied some thermal paste on Cell and RSX(probably not going to contact with heatsink but won't hurt I guess)

i know this is random. But i want to message you. PSX place doesnt allow me since i dont have many posts. I broke my CECHCO4 while doing a dilid. I have a reflow machine and ive seen people selling cell prossesors on ebay. Ive heard its possible to change the procsessor but that its not that easy since the cpu and the gpu are married. Something called syscon? I have no idea. I would just like to know if theres anything, even if its really hard to do.

so, swap the nand and the syscon with the same console i will take the replacment cell from? Thats all? That actually sounds kinda easy. Can i take the parts from any system or does it have to be a CECHCO4?
It starts up, goes through all three stages and then shuts down after 15-20seconds.
No output on screen.
Now, during these 15 seconds, i see:
And then three beeps...
A0801002 = RSX Power on VRAM failure
A0802124 = ????
Similar error:
A0802120 = HDMI Power on failure (IC2502) - Sil9132CBU chip failure or related power line failure - check diodes, fuses and regulator IC2501
So perhaps this case would indicate that NEC/Tokin must be replaced for RSX?
Or... can someone confirm whether A0802124 would also be related to HDMI?
Maybe I'd do the CPU/RSX delid first.
Replace the TC under ihs.
Then test...
If not working, then replace two RSX tokins for tantalum ones.
After that, I assume the A0801002 error should be gone, right?
So.. if there still won't be any output on the screen, but the console won't be turning off... I'd go for the HDMI part, right?
Hello,
I have similar or maybe exactly same problem. Same motherboard model. CECHL03, VER-001
Here is my old post, 3rd console in that message (URL)
I had bricked it while jailbreaking and it shutdown in the middle of patching NOR. Today, recently unbricked and getting same errlog as you. So I would like to share my info about my console and some back story, maybe it will help to resolve our issue, because I was reading conversation between you and RIP-Felix. Also I dont have equipment to do more difficult troubleshooting. Only got soldering iron, hot air station, multimeter.
Console behavior before bricking it:
Console would start and randomly, but shortly, like between 1-8 minutes it would power off. And would give these errors: A0802124 and A0801002. But while it was working (before shutting down) I noticed that monitor would just lose display signal and had to turn off and on monitor to get video signal back. Cant correctly remember on which resolution, but I remember changing from 480p (I think) to 1080p and when I was changing resolution, while it was changing, there would appear for second or two static video noise before it would go to chosen resolution. After bricking it I disassembled and soldered wires for syscon to check error log. Near hdmi connector, HDD, around that area I noticed water residue. Maybe console before got some water damage? There is photo in my old post.
Now back to today. Unbricked console and getting same errorlog as you. But for short time I can see display on monitor before it shutdowns and I can get into recovery mode but console still would shutdown before I could do something. Tried to use HDMI and AV. While using HDMI, I think console would shutdown a bit faster and give 2x A0802124 (maybe because im using vga to hdmi adapter and processes longer to display). While AV would stay a little longer and would give only 1xA0802124.

I read here, that it is possible that tokins are bad and have some on hand to replace, but I dont know if it will be good enough (330UF 2.5V, dont know about ESR).
Someone replaced both AV and HDMI chip and solved this or similar problem. But probably it would be really hard or impossible for me to replace BGA chips with hot air station.
I also have few other older PS3's for parts, maybe I could harvest something to use for this console. They were working good before I destroyed them :/. (Was overheating and failed deliding)
Other day I will try to investigate more because I'm tired now.
Just some thoughts. Maybe it has to do something with software on NOR chip? Because before bricking, console would stay on longer and it had I think 4.84 version (guessing from my unbricking adventure) (ROS0 Version: 488.00; ROS1 Version 484.000) Now it has 4.88 version. (ROS0 Version: 488.00; ROS1 Version 488.000). Or maybe some components degraded over time? Because after bricking, console was sitting in a box for about 3 months.
Got a CECH-2502 slim turns on LED goes green but fan doesn't spin. No display. Doesn't heat up . All surface fuses test OK. Before I hook up and read the syscon error codes do the following Ohms readings look OK:
3.7-4 Ohms - CPU
2.8-3.1 Ohms - GPU
Were taken on two cheapo multi-meters hence the variation.

Cpu./gpu are fine with those resistances. Check out syscon, can be something to WiFi/av/Hdmi
Edit
Testing few more things :reset unit - keep power push for 10 seconds. Try to hear like enter recovery mode 2 beeps. Also if controller work rsx is not dead.
First have you exchanged all nec caps? Are cpu and rsx delided? Clear errlog and boot few times, usually 3 times same error in row will tell exactly. It seems like rsx or cpu is cutting 12 v line because they don't like something. Can't be sure if is true but I may be right if those caps are failing, added extra caps won't help in many cases. I haven't got any board powered for so long 55 seconds and turning off. It looks like under voltage/amps one line. All PS are OK (not short circuit), kind of one filter won't work properly.
If all caps are exchanged are they all 470uf x10 at least?Bridge on vccd lines are strong enough to stand for about 20 amps?

Can be AV/Hdmi both of them or only one. There are many other unknown errors apart from those in that syslog pdf, probably related unusual then S0ny discovered as normal debugging situation.
Had one situation with 2024 exchanged both AV/Hdmi ic and usit started. Before was not stating act as ylod 3 seconds.
Not sure if same situation is here. Any oxidation around any ic(syscon area)?
Need to ask botakompong if he sorted, think he had few boards.
Also @ Wi-Fi power on bottom there are few vregs, one is 3v3 and one is 2.4 both are powering WiFi. Can you check both in standby mode and see if they have voltage.
This is as example not for VER 001. Don't have any atm to read or compare but those voltages have to be on to create wake on lan system.
Edit @botakompong had many times this error and I don't remember how he sorted.
Edit 2
When I've said all PS are OK I've referred to ps3 board bringup command is telling you PS 0,1,2,3,4 are OK. By now not really sure what voltages is checking but for sure it says all are there. If this board won't take 12 v and power cpu and rsx I don't understand how this board starts 55 seconds? Would you like to create one video, not something fancy but as close as you can for details.
Edit
There is one way to start on this way when auticleaning commands it is active with eject and power on pressing first eject. 10 pin cable any pin short? Power boad exchange?
On automatic clean it will spin fan at full speed I think, not same situation here? In this mode board is on, no vddc on rsx or cpu(tested)
I ran syscon on a PS3 I just picked up. Power on instantly gets YLOD flash then blinking red
The error looks to be
A0801001 = CELL Power on VRAM failure
How would I go about fixing this?
Thanks
