PS1 Free PSX Boot won't play games

Hi there,

I am trying to set up Free PSX Boot softmod on my PSone. It's a SCPH-102 model. I have used Free MC Boot and Memcard Annihilator on my PS2 to copy the images to my PS1 memory card (I'm using the slot 2 images, and have tried both 0bad7ea9 and 76b880e5 images which are for BIOS 4.4 and 4.5, repsectively)

The exploit works, and I'm booted into Unirom. But when I go choose Play I just get an error that says

"Waiting for CD to become ready & unlocked. . . .

Not a valid CD or the drive is locked
Press X to exit."

So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The console can definitely play legit games without any mods so the optical drive still works. Thanks for any help.

Never used this but reading over the troubleshooting MC Annihilator was not suggested install method. Apparently third party memory cards or non-official controllers can cause an issue as well as using certain slims can't write properly. Wish I could be or more help but in case you have not read this here you go man. Good luck sir

Never used this but reading over the troubleshooting MC Annihilator was not suggested install method.

MCA doesn't analyse and/or change data, it only read data and write by what it read. In case of PSX VMC, it read 128KiB and write it by 8KiB because that's what PSX MC allows.

If PSX MC is not original, then PS2 will not read it. So also games and MCA will not.

More information from OP:

1) I have bought a second PS1 console. This one is a SCPH-9002 (fat) model.
2) I have bought an original copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
3) The new console has absolutely no problem loading any of my backup discs with either FreePSXBoot or TonyHax
4) The PSone still won't boot the same backup discs with either FreePSXBoot or TonyHax.
5) The PSone has no problem playing original black disc games
6) The warranty sticker on the PSone is intact, but it always behaves like the lid is closed. Original games boot and play with the lid open.

Can anyone suggest a reason the (probably) unmodified PSone can't load backup discs the other PS1 has no problem with?

oh, and

7) I am using a genuine Sony PS1 mem card for the exploits

I figured it out. It was a jammed lid sensor. I opened the console up and added a bit of electronics-safe lubricant to the lid switch mechanism, and now it works great
