I have a question.

Is it possible to host my own server and have others connect to it on GTA 5 online PS3??

I consider this the best online game and now it's shutdown at R*

So would this be possible and is anyone working to bring this online again for everyone
That would be amazing its
Certainly a project that needs attention

Bro returning with GTA 5 online is ok, but r0ck$tar will practically be entering the process and she always wins in the processes if GTA 5 online returns, the PSONE team itself said that they would not resurrect GTA 5 due to the processes that the company earns

Yeah, Rockstar is as notorious as Nintendo when it comes to protecting their IP, and neither cares about the bad PR they get.
Nintendo routinely sues websites offering ROMs of games that are not available for sale anymore and that it doesn't see a penny from anyway. Rockstar abuses its deep pockets by filing lawsuits that are completely ridiculous if it weren't for the fact that the other side don't have nearly enough money for proper defense. For instance they DCMAed and then sued a project that reverse engineered and reimplemented an old GTA engine, and let me clarify, just the engine, and it was a proper RE/reimplementation, meaning that they fully own the copyright, but Rockstar went after them anyway.

EDIT: In the case of such rotten companies probably the only thing that could work is if we gamers, as a group, just don't buy their games, telling them that "we love your games but can't agree with your business practices" - but I doubt this will happen anytime soon.

I understand what your saying but ain't the people running GTA v Roleplay servers already doing this sort of thing running there own GTA servers and they don't get sued I thought similar could be done on the PS3 but I guess not

GTA RP, Roleplay, etc. A detail about it! The game is original, generates a lot of views, engaging others to buy Grand Theft Auto V.
In the past Rockstar has tried to stop this as well, but failed, the agreement to keep the RP is simple, no original game files must be modified, and people must buy the game, no piracy is tolerated.
Now reviving GTA Online on the PS3, people using non-genuine copies of the game, is a totally different situation.
In addition to infringing copyright, it can still be considered a crime.

They didn't get sued yet.
From a purely technical perspective, yes, private servers on consoles can be done, although it may be a lot more complicated if the game integrates with PSN, because you'll have to emulate parts of PSN as well. Nothing is impossible though, it's not like people can't, it's just that they won't. Like I said Rockstar has a history of being very trigger happy when it comes to suing people, and even when said people have done absolutely nothing wrong, they hardly ever have enough money to defend against the dozens of lawyers that Rockstar sends their way. You've got to accept that in reality justice comes down to who has more money. You can't blame people for not wanting to take such risks.

they sound even more obnoxious than Nintendo and that's saying a lot. I imagine it goes back to the whole Hot Coffee thing

also F%$# Rockstar for killing off the Midnight Club series

justice comes down to who has more money.
or who's in bed (sometimes literally) with the right people, or can play the victim card on themselves. see GamerGate - the Wikipedia article for that is horrendously biased towards the Depression Quest dev. (the article on Keffals similarly fails to mention any wrongdoing of theirs - dare to mention 'catboy ranch' and immediate reversal happens)

The company r0ck$tar is practically bankrupt, when it launched the new generation consoles it still pushes GTA 5 with its belly, it doesn't even want to launch GTA 6.... Moreover, r0ck$tar only ended the PS3 servers because there were too many modders in the session and she was losing money on it. At the time, r0ck$tar was successful, but nowadays it is bankrupt and losing money.

I mean - to claim that Rockstar is practically bankrupt - you have to be really ill informed, sorry.

I'm really not surprised they decided to shutdown GTA V servers for PS3, that game did not get any updates in ages on that console. Moreover, they weren't making enough money to justify keeping it up - I believe it wasn't possible to purchase "Shark Cards" on PS3 for a long time now - not to mention that hackers on this system could easily just mod this.

You really shouldn't be surprised that a company exists to make money. Shutting down these servers was purely a business decision and I am honestly surprised they were on for this long.

They are pushing GTA V because it's easy money for them - it's infuriating to see only one GTA title over that long time (and one whole generation of consoles), but you'd also need to take into account that creating games is now much bigger investment (both of money and time and workforce) than it was in PS2 era.

Rockstar is working on GTA VI (as we have confirmation in the leaks from 2022) - but producing such game is no small task nowadays and delivering undercooked title would only bring them more hate (see Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco). I'm not surprised they want to polish this game as much as they can and they're giving the team enough time.
