PS3HEN (Guide) How To Install HEN

AFAIK cobra is not included in hen in full. much of the code is used somewhere in hen, but not as full cobra payload. the needed code could be added, if you find it in cobra and know where to put it in hen.

no need to unpack. the source code is available on github for both projects. however most people can not compile hen from source because the paid sony sdk is needed to compile the sprx file.
 
First of all, will HEN survive after a HDD format or PS3 restore to factory ?
On 4.85 HFW with HEN 3.0.0 how should the update be performed ? Installing the Latest HEN.pkg for USB 4.85 is ok ?
I tried to do the Auto-installer from ps3xploit.me but it does not update it , it just tries to activate the existing HEN .

I apologize if this was answered somewhere else but I spent about 4 hours yesterday and today trying to find the answer and no one is really mentioning it so idk all i see is stuff about the bgtools being down or something but i remember that being addressed on ps3xploit..

But I tried ps3xploit .com and .me and both show this error bellow and some DNS error I forgot to copy down but I'm assuming it's just down for the last 2 days or so?

"Hmm. We're having trouble finding that site.

We can't connect to the server at ps3xploit .me.

If you entered the right address, you can:

Try again later
Check your network connection
Check that Firefox has permission to access the web (you might be connected but behind a firewall)"

I need this to enable hen on my ps3 slim, which I already had but converted to a bigger ssd and regret it now that I can't get hen working...
I didn't think of just backing up or figured to start fresh and update my old copies but either way..

I came across some comment about the developer needing $1200 to keep it up for 3 years and that they were about 2/3 of the way there.. I didn't see an option to contribute to this badass tool initially but if that's why it's really down then let me know and I can get a few people to donate and in a month I can reach that goal by myself if need be. Idk how else to do this shniet and rather support the cause and keep it going than see it dwindle due to funds..

So let me know or let me know how to do this stationary plz cause all the methods seem to point to using this domain that is down randomly or advising to not use alt methods from copy cats bricking systems...

I also came across some shady comments that stated that we can host this tool by itself but can't find it now, and that I'd be fine with but idk if that's going against the code of this community or going to up the risks of bricking my system..

I believe they have reached that $1200 donation goal or at least close, i am sure they would welcome new donations.
If the site is offline and you can not make a donation, you can wait until back up or you can ask @esc0rtd3w (for PS3HEN) or @bguerville (for PS3 Toolset).

There is dangerous incomplete version's posing as "modded" versions or "mirror" while they can work, they can also brick because they are prone to errors with important checks not implemented or disabled (to get the incomplete code to work). Those we advise to stay away from.


ps3xploit.me has been down the past couple of days. @esc0rtd3w and @bguerville will provide an update when more is known.

AFAIK ps3xploit.me is blocked because of internet police wannabes for last few days. the .com and .org site were stolen and are not official now. bgtoolset has been down for some time due to the developer being temporarily unavailable.

Ah jeez, Why does everyone have to ruin it for people and police the world on issues that are so small.. sure this exploit can result in some shady business but you can legit search for highly dangerous chemical compounds and buy the the ingredients from the internet and they are still present which is way worse lol.. I mean look at the darkweb lmao!!

I never really looked into what bgtoolset even does to be honest and just used hen for mine and a few buddies ps3's so not sure if that's something for me to worry about or if that's for CFW systems?

Even though they are a mod for this forum, does this "mirror" serve a safe way of just getting my hen enabled on a 4.89 super slim?
No offense Coro but just making sure, as I believe your mirror was the one I came across that had a big warning label slapped on it avoiding fault for bricking ps3's lol..

Thanks for the speedy response, wanting to play a few games that the CD's are beyond messed up to work anymore and got bummed out when the .me wasn't working anymore :(

@Coro & @STLcardsWS and what I mean by "safe", do they mimic the same functionality of the .me enabler set up? I originally went off a youtube guide and just kinda memorized it and not sure if there is any other additional steps to help avoid bricking, since I don't have any hardware tools to flash if it came to that yet. I know there was a quicker way to get past the initiation failed error but forgot lol since it's been like 5 months since I did it, but if you look up "

PS3HEN is an open source project (Since its an Open Source Project the code is complete and other can do like make proper mirror, Its .)

bgtoolset is a closed source project (so the ones that are not official that have popped up do not have complete original code. is partial incomplete dangerous code with safety checks removed ) the toolset is for CFW CAPABLE models and it will allow for you to install CFW from OFW. PS3HEN can install on all models but since CFW has some addditional features if your PS3 can install CFW that is suggested over PS3HEN but PS3HEN is does much of what CFW does here is a list comparing the two https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps3-cfw-vs-ps3hen-comparing-ps3-exploits.38774/

Just saying u literally said to avoid mirrors and then coro came in with a mirror, so i wanted to make sure that thats not something that would have better chance at bricking my ps3..

The youtube reference is just a basic know how i used to even find out about this forum or tools. I spent quite a long time between videos and redits researching how to do all this before jumping in so definitely not blind lol. But i always end up finding the "official instructions" to be hidden or confuaing and need a video or other people to break it down easier for me.

Like i said though no offence @Coro jus wanted to make sure ur mirror wasn't more dangerous than the original hen enabler. If its literally a mirror copy than i misunderstand the first reply

No worries, As explained there is a difference between PS3 Toolset and PS3HEN
PS3HEN is open source,
BG TOOLSET is not open source.

So when you mirror something and have the code for one and you do not have code for the other then what is a good option to mirror. Obviously PS3HEN since the code is available to all

The toolset was never made Open source so that means the mirror are not mirror, THEY ONLY LOOK LIKE IT, they do have SOME functions reversed but only parts were able to be reversed and you had to break and exclude IMPORTANT things to make it work..

So mirrors is okay on one and extremely dangerous on the other. So that is why i say avoid mirror on the toolset because they are not really mirror.s

If they are showing where its from and telling the user how they got the info. its usually a good sign they are trying to atleast give best info (may not always happen) but there are others just trying to get views on videos and becomes a bit obvious .

I don't remember what all 3 options on the site do but, I just chose "Mirror of Official HEN Installer/Enabler from ps3xploit.me (HEN 3.1.1 on HFW 4.84 to 4.89)" but it is also suggested to use the alternate mirror as well.

TIP:
If you get the failed message, just clear cache in the ps3 and close browser on the ps3 and do the step again and it should work.
