PS3 "GUIDE" South Bridge log with possible GLODs & YLODs solutions'

It's such a shame that a useful thread in southbridge diagnosis (there's really not much of that available) got so sidetracked. Putting this information together somewhere everyone can discuss/document it would really benefit the community.

There are other threads our friend Timbo himself started, on applying pressure to the cpu. Can't we keep that in there? That too would benefit the forum.

It would be great to preserve this information so hopefully the moderators can move the information to another thread?

Just because one person or a couple people dont like to hear something, doesnt make it clutter or irrelevant.
I believe the board pressure test is a VERY significant thing in diagnosing a GLOD. (The intended subject of this thread).

I also dont like certain replies, either because they may seem unnecesary, irrelevant or inappropriate. (No offence @marciolsf )
But out of respect for the people writing and the people reading,
(this is a public forum as moderators said) there should be very good reasons besides just that, to hide information unilaterally.
I also liked the guide, as well as I stand by what I said, and I didnt type it to be deleted.
I also didnt type it to be offensive. I am not afraid of being wrong, and I try to be respectful in general.

Now if @DeadEnd is taking offence at everything I say... Maybe he has his own reasons, but is the general public responsible for this? No.
He keeps turning it into a personal thing and letting his bad character and insecurities shine. Actually we used to be friends, but that turned out to be very difficult.
This is not the first time @Pacorretaco has personally accused me and attempted to discredit me just because I disagreed with him. I feel extremely disappointed having to constantly defend my reputation against his pointless lies while nobody even backs me up. He says that I only do this for my own profit , while I invested my own time and money to build my own bga machine, import broken consoles to practice on and learn the process of replacing the chips, and still barely breaking even. That I don't have enough skill to reball - a pathetic attempt to make me seem like I'm not capable, while I literally filmed a video doing it. And using examples some of the failures I told him about openly to make it seem like i'm simply not skilled enough. Except I'm not ashamed of failures, I used them to learn and improve myself. All this while he himself has not fixed a single machine nor have I seen any of his flawless work. This just seems like jealousy that went out of control and obsessive behavior to criticise what some of us have accomplished.
You are the one that is discrediting yourself, and trying to accuse others in direct and disrespectful ways. Like calling me and this whole community toxic before, and now these "statements"...

"That I dont have the skill to reball"... I dont know if you do or dont have it, as you never showed or said you reballed any board, if anything to see if it actually works or not. I just said "people who dont want or can't reball" (Meaning removing and placing same original chip on board without destroying) But somehow "you" felt identified with the second part. Again, probably you had your own reasons.

Then the last part is the sad one.
All this while he himself has not fixed a single machine nor have I seen any of his flawless work. This just seems like jealousy that went out of control and obsessive behavior to criticise what some of us have accomplished.
If those arent "personal accussations and attempts at discrediting others", I dont know what they are...
Well, actually I do know what they are. Just some hateful comments that show the kind of hateful person you are, while failing at their intended purpose because they are all also wrong.

I normally dont need to prove anything about myself to anybody, but seems like this time I am asked to.

You should finally realize this is not a personal thing, this is not about me... But I have had GLOD fixed by reballing and also by replacing the RSX chip with 40nm variant as per the frankenstein procedure myself. So why would I be jealous?
I still dont even understand why you always need to make it like some kind of personal fight between you and me.

Now if @DeadEndHe keeps turning it into a personal thing and letting his bad character and insecurities shine.

But aren't you being personal too? ...it's easy to say everyone else (but you) makes it personal, then say the things you said above, making it personal.

It's definitely last word syndrome, all I'm interested in is finding out what causes certain errors on these consoles. If we disagree then that's all there is to it, we don't need to somehow discredit someone to prove ourselves right, dam nobody's perfect after all!

So I'm reasonably sure we are all right in one regard or another, my mind set has changed a little but I will set out to prove what's going on. So I will be asking a YouTuber Tony to reball a GLOD console that currently works with pressure. Instead of reballing the RSX I will be asking him to reball the CELL processor. It will make a very interesting video that will definitely appeal to a lot of people which will be good news for him. If the console fails to boot after a CELL reball (I mean goes GLOD) and then works once again when pressure I applied then we know for sure the RSX is most likely the cause. If it boots then it's likely a CPU BGA issue. I will vigorously test the console to be sure I hasn't been subject to a false positive and this should solve the issue once and for all.

But aren't you being personal too? ...it's easy to say everyone else (but you) makes it personal, then say the things you said above, making it personal.
Next time you make a reply, please try to make it add something, hopefully something good to the conversation, my good Senior Member.
I dont want you to become another member of the hate gang

That will be better for everyone including keeping this thread "less cluttered".

Also it seems like Deadend deleted the pictures too and those are still gone, messing up the thread.

So in case somebody comes searching and the necessary pictures are still missing, here are some other pictures of the pinouts...
Just need 1 wire, (SB_Tx) for read only access, very simple thing.

COK-001

COK-002 same thing, just slightly different layout. Here is example:

Should be that first pad from unpopulated service connector, easy to spot...
Works for other boards also

Edit: Also optionally, Hypervisor log can be enabled for more information. Useful when installing firmware updates too. But this will make the system slower so make sure to disable it later:

You can try the following to get more messages from the Hypervisor:
Run these Syscon UART commands in standby:
Code:
w 42CF 03
w 42F0 03
w 42F1 03
After that, boot the system and attempt the install again.
The SB UART log will now be longer and include some information from various Hypervisor services.
The PS3 will be slower because of all the log output.

To disable the Hypervisor log, use:
Code:
w 42CF FF
w 42F0 FF
w 42F1 FF

Good luck...

Strange, I decided to share this information so I assumed I could remove as well... But I think I'll do better, I'll stop posting on this forum alltogether.

That is your choice but that is a policy we have had since day 1 here. That is nothing new and i think its something most agree is the right thing to do .

The reason we do not allow this is because, well what is everyone did it?
So if we do not allow all how can we just allow some and not other's so you have to take a step back and look at the big picture and that is what we try and do.

Also its a public forum so its just like stating and saying something in conversations in real-life can we just say forget that and decide to unhear things.?

So there is a balance and i can understand where you are coming from in that regard but again if we allowed everyone to do that it would be a huge issue. So that is why we have always had that policy.

Now the the arguments between you guys, both side can have an opinion and share them within the rules of the site, that is between you guys i have not got into that aspect of it, i just wanted to comment, why i restored the removed post. Hopefully you understand and if you have any questions or concerns more then welcome to send me a message.

Had you ask us to remove it with legislate reason, we may consider but when its just edits of the post to delete them, then we are almost always going to restore them.

Thx alot! I needed these images. I'm wondering, isn't there a well done official guide on how to access southbride logs with syscon on this site? I'm experimenting with GLOD after a reassembly of a working COK-002. Here is my post:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/glod-on-new-cok-002-after-reassembly.41745/

Hi all, this thread seems a bit dead, but I think useful also. So my PS3 fat 80Gb model had various problems before. Cleaning, thermal paste, net tokins. Lasted another year or so. Then much overheating. Delid the CPU and that brought temp right down. Worked a bit still that day, then started getting artifacts and freezes randomly. Decided to do RSX delid also as per NSC recommend. Didnt do reflow yet. Anyways after the delid, now just no signal GLOD. so the problem seems to me to be related to unknown damage done during delid process, maybe severed some ball joints.

As per the previous comments is there a nice guide for the southbridge thing. Will be buying the FT232RL tomorrow and then do normal syscon logs at first. Going to do that rather before attempting anything else, such as pressure, reflow, etc.
