PS2 HD Loader (disc version)

I just picked up a fat PS2 with a physical version of HD Loader. It has a network adapter and a hard drive (120GB). How do I go about installing ISO files onto my PS2? I'm a newbie in PS2 modding/softmodding.

So I need a FMCB memory card if I'm correct?
No. You need any vector point attack to run FHDB installer. It can be pre-made disk image, FMCB on MC, Fortuna/OpenTuna on MC, Free DVDBoot, title.db exploit, Yabasic exploit, swap disc/cheat engine. Anything which is handy for You and works on Your model.

If You have working drive and DVD-Player 3.11 then use FDVDB, if You have no one with FMCB, then use "MBR Boot" or disk image with FHDB/whatever but use this only to run uLE, format drive and install FHDB.

Then use MBR Boot or disk image with FHDB as I said, to launch uLE, formatting this HDD and installing fresh FHDB. Easiest for You will be write "__mbr" version of uLE kHn. It will automatically launch on console start, so You going to Misc > HDD Manager > Format Drive and then go to USB (mass:/) and launch FMCB/FHDB v1.966 installer.

I am utterly confused here.

First of all, can I install OPL using straight up a USB instead of getting the FMCB memory card?

What is the difference between FMCB and FHDB?

I also do not have a way of connecting my HDD to the computer, is there any other way of transferring files?

No, because PS2 firmware cannot boot anything from USB, only from MC and HDD because of how works OSD Update feature.

FMCB (Free McBoot) is designed for MC, FHDB (Free HDBoot) for HDD. By simplifying, both are hacks of OSDSYS (menu socalled Browser).

If You cannot connect HDD to PC and have incompatible DVD-Player, then only what left to You is to buy or borrow i.e Swap Magic (its region must match to region of Your console, just like original games) or card with installed FMCB. Eventually You could hotswap discs (needs game with online functionality or just any game which launching different executable on that disc and hand made ps2 disc with replaced this executable by i.e uLE) but it is tedious and needs a lot of hassle to make it work.

BTW: The reason why to not use HDLoader it is ancient and not many games works with it. I.e Final Fantasy XII doesn't (constant stuttering and freezing, while on OPL works fine).

Yes. However, active USB adaptor for IDE HDD it is similar cost but give You freedom from Chinese faulty memory cards (if You have PC of course). ;)
