PS2 HDDManager freezes expanding +OPL

You can't PUT folders, only files. You have to create the ART folder, then PUT each and every art file into it (after CD into the ART folder).

alright, here's a thought. Can I install OPL and it's folders to a USB drive and run games off an internal hdd? Instead of having OPL on the internal HDD, I was thinking, just put it on a USB drive and run it from there. Should be possible right?

You can launch OPL from USB but OPL folders will be where your games are.

You need a batch program like this: [APP] PS2 HDD BatchKit by NeMesiS - PS2-HOME.com - PS2 Homebrew and Tools (ps2-home.com)

I meant with games already installed by winhiip to the internal drive, are we able to store and run OPL from a usb drive and have nothing of it on the internal hdd? Or does OPL automatically create a folder on the hdd. I'm not talking about running games from an external drive.

Does running games from an external on a slim PS2 suck and I should stick with a fat and do it by internal hdd. The fat I just picked up a week ago fried out. I got one of those hdmi adapters that plugs into the front usb port and then in the back where the video port is. I don't know if that messed it up but it's done.

You can run OPL.ELF from USB but OPL games related folders (ART, CHT, CFG, THM, VMC) will be where games are installed.
So if you boot games from internal HDD those folders will be read from iHDD.

What fried out on the fat Ps2, the video output??

On slim you can play via SMB, but is not as fast as internal HDD (also SMB compatibility is lower). Fat Ps2 are more resistant than slim (Fat Ps2 is a complete tank up to 3900X. Then they started to mount a quite crappy optical drive from 5000X onward. 5000X also run hotter than previous Ps2, a compromise for a quieter fan, but there wasn't actual overheating problems, they started with the slims).

I think the PS2 was already junk when I bought it. It didn't even have a PS2 controller, the guy gave me a PS1 controller. And when I started this thread I was having issues with transferring files from a usb drive to the internal hdd. It would transfer for exactly 20 minutes and freeze. It did this 4 times, exactly 20 minutes into the transfer. And then I got an HDMI video adapter that plugged into the front usb port and into the video port on the back. I would turn my tv on and it wouldn't recognize the signal from the PS2. So I would have to turn the PS2 off and back on again for it to work. Then it was smooth and worked great, I could use the file browser and look around, but transferring files always froze it up. Then I would load a game in OPL and it would say no controller found, like it would lose connection to the controller. And then after that, when I would load OPL the screen would go crazy and change colors and go blocky and pixelated and eventually freeze. So now I'm looking for another fat PS2. But everyone in my area is asking $75. To be honest, I'm not trying to pay that much for a 20 year old console that may or may not work.

I get a PS3 with a DS3 and an HDMI-Cable (with Ethernet) for that price or even less!

Where are you at?
Maybe you can find someone here.

Btw.: Some games report "no controller" when a DS1 is connected as well!

Actually without a countercheck is possible that all those problems aren't caused by the Ps2. But I guess you already tested other USB devices, cables, controllers, changing Ps2 video output, etc...

Aren't you able to buy on ebay?? There are many Fat Ps2s for a good price, where are you from?

For example here are 2 for 46 euro: Sony Playstation 2 Fat Silver e nera Mod 2 Console | eBay
Check if the shipment is available for where you are and how much it is. For me is 10 euro.

There are also many for 20 or 30, even less, but only local pickup.

Never expand anything, especially the +OPL partition, or else you might trigger a bug that causes major PFS corruption.
The practice is : manually create your +OPL partition to give it the size that you want. It is preferable to create this partition BEFORE you start installing games (ie right after the HDD was formatted) so OPL loads faster.

This pretty much sums up OPL. Why is the expand option avaliable, if doing so will corrupt the HDD?

This have nothing to do with OPL... uLE/wLE offering partition size expanding. OPL seeking his partition and it will have problems if it is broken, in the same ways as i.e Windows will not work properly when his NTFS is broken.

Because it works until some of uLE version, or bug wasn't noticed until now.
