Help finding DIA-002 shorted motherboard

Av ic also removed, it was still shorted.

I solder back av chip and mosfet..... And i removed RSX.... this is the gpu causing the short.

Is it possible to test the rsx, to know if the chip is dead or if a reball can fix it?

Also where to find a new RSX 65nm?

many thanks for the testpad layout picture. it seems, dia-002 is the most similar mainboard to deb-001. esprit1711 has confirmed me this as well
 
Looking to rsx pinout should be green line power points. Do you have have reball experience before desolder rsx? Be careful as you can damage easily those ic. With time they become sensible to hi-temperature.

Can not be sure, I think blue is power line of ram for rsx, not sure if I remember correctly. Have you desoldered rsx? Is still showing that 0.8ohms on board or rsx? At the blue line on rsx should be more than 140 ohms desoldered, dia002 is 65 nm rsx ic and have like 350 ohms or more can not remember.
It would be more simple if we had schematic of this motherboard model. I will post as reference an older schematic from Sem001 that is last model with nands but very similar with dia001/002. I may need time to find it if nobody would like to help and share till then.

Hello, yes i removed RSX.
On board i have no more shorts ( where it was showing 0.8 ohms o i have now 98.7 ohms)

On RSX, all the values on memory ( blue) are shorted and i have 0.7 ohms on every blue pads and ground.

On the board on same points i have a value rising until 8.3 Kohms

If i understand well, all the ram connected to RSX is shorted right?
 
That is fine I will post the link to all pdf for ps3 that I have here, should look at sem001 board is similar to your board.
You have an defective rsx. Not sure why, have you applied any thermal paste on rsx ram when it was working?
On your board rsx is 65 nm so only from dia002 or dyn001 is compatible.

Yes, i changed thermal paste and delid it last year and it was all good! Max temp in game i see was 72° on rsx and around 70 on cell.

I'm looking on internet but i can't find a new rsx CXD2982GB.

On another old broken rsx 90nm,i removed the 4 x ram to see if the blue values are still showing shortes without the ram and yes, without ram on it i also have 0.7 ohms....
 
On the 90 rsx have you removed rsx out of board then scrap those ram? How did you get them out of rsx? It is a common power line for rsx, if rsx is still on board you can not say short is on board like in dia002 case.

On 90 RSX, after removing it from the board, i use hot gun and a tiny blade to remove the ram. The way it was manufactured and glued to the chip make it almost impossible to replace. Anyway it looks like the failure of rsx come from this underneath ram balls. They melt at lower temperature than the bga under the rsx chip i think causing shorts everywhere.

Do you know if their is a way to make my old hard drive from my cechk ps3 accessible on another ps3 system? Mine was with CFW 4.86.
 
Software side of ps3 is not really something that I'm in to, I still have to learn many things, more about hardware, I have read there is a way to connect ps3 hdd on pc but don't know about to much, never needed, may be possible to pc then restore to another ps3, not sure it will work.
 
On rsx 90 nm is quite hard to remove it from motherboard, well at least for me was, this month I've just learned the way to remove it in very normal condition with 3 ohms on power line and 145 ohms on ram is definitely the best condition for 90 nm outside board. Reball back is not difficult, I always check values after balls are back and already tested 14 boards, I am confident that profile is good, at 205 will be good enough, hard part is to get it out at 225.

if you have rootkey dumped from your old ps3 before it went bad, then yes and I have done this with my broken cechl to another cechl. it was complicated, cause the only tool to decrypt the image completely is ps3encdec, but this is broken for vflash decryption on fat nors. I wanted to fix it and also add hdd decryption to hddreader when I will find time for it

just decrypt image with ps3encdec and then reencrypt it for your new ps3. though, vflash will be broken and you will get a fw install prompt, but after installation and rebuilding database all your data will be back

keep in mind, registry is also vflash, so no accounts, settings can be saved this way. you have to dump them first with hddreader and rootkey
 
Thanks for your help guys, I'm not good enough to do the manipulation of haxxxen. I think i will try to change the rsx. Anyone already order a rsx from Chinese aliexpress? Are they working? I can't find any cxd2982gb anywhere else.

Stupid question but is it possible to put another version of rsx?
 
About another rsx version seems to complicated, Sony probably did the same thing for some old units and added some new parts

About rsx from Aliexpress, take measurements on test points on rsx pinout before solder on board, if middle power line is lower than 2 ohms, and ram line is less than 140 ohms (I think, can not remember now) then could not work, report back here and wait ppl more confirmation of good values . I may repair few dyn001 board on next weeks and I will see rsx65nm then, I should create some documents/photos with test points of rsx/cpu good value/voltages/resistance on board and outside. It make take time but should be something simple for level 1 technicians. There was something like that before? Can't remember if I've seen something like that to ps3wiki.

Its a lottery im afraid on working RSX from AliExpress.

Go for the 5star feedback. Check the ohm readings when you receive it. if checks out use 180C to put back on as they use low heat solder balls.
 
Hi everyone, i have some news but not very good ones yet:cower:

I received my RSX, checked values and looks perfect. I weld it on the board, with temperatures checks, i do not have any shorts anymore, values are correct now, but it still showing instant ylod....

When i power on the motherboard the cell and rsx are warming a little before the ylod, which i think indicate that both cpu and gpu are working.

I reball and reweld the hdmi IC ship too , i believe it's properly working too.

Any other idea are welcome...
If someone knows where to find a video step by step to do the diagnostic method?
