4.89.1 HFW (Hybrid FirmWare)

HFW 4.89.1 (Hybrid Firmware) Official Release -

Do you realize the path from the official links where you are downloading the HEN installer contains the names "rc", "rc1", or "rc2" ?
Is just that is not mentioned in the filename, but are literally "release candidates"... and are intended to be used by anxious devs, not the final users

Also, everyone of that release candidates could have different problems (latest is rc2 or rc3) so you need to tell which one you installed
Anyway... this thread is about HFW, not the HEN installer (by now, im not sure if @esc0rtd3w will repurpose this thread later)

The path does not contain anything indicating that this release is a release candidate and simply links to PS3HEN_3.1.0_4.89_FW.zip.

Perhaps what you meant is the suffix for PKG file in the ZIP package - I can see that the one included has C suffix (possibly to indicate beta C).

The package that's being downloaded by default using ps3xploit's website has name Latest_HEN_Installer_signed.pkg - that's what's being installed by default and produces XMB glitches that I and other people have reported.

I am just pointing out that there seems to be a misunderstanding between what is the final HEN 3.1.0 release and what is not. If HEN 3.1.0 was released, officially announced and packages were released, I don't see why are you claiming that it's beta - unless there was some mistake.

I also don't see why are you blaming end user over and over for this, where it seems that obviously there are two different packages available - and there is nothing mentioning a release candidate/beta in either release notes or in filenames.

Ok, but as far i see the thread has been repurposed (look at the timestamp of the first post, it was made at May 3, 2019), the release is this post published by @esc0rtd3w 5 hours ago
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/u...lims-noncfw-models.23955/page-192#post-333712

If some of you installed that PKG published 5 hours ago then you are updated... otherway you installed an older release candidate

I can confirm that this fix does work, it installs explore_plugin.sprx sourced from OFW 4.89.
Fun fact: we're not included this file into unofficial Russian HEN. So it has less bugs then official one. :D

All of them are broken. ;)

I also don't see why are you blaming end user over and over for this
I was talking in general, i know there are another 2 people releasing HEN installers (additionally to the ones made by yoti), this makes at least a total of 3 HEN "flavours", and today ive seen a youtube video from a guy reporting problems in some of that unnofficial HEN installers, so i think eventually we are going to have people reporting problems in the forum to the official HEN developers that are not his fault, additionally the official links of the release candidates has been available publically and some people was downloading them
So all and all, i was not sure if your reports belongs to the latst HEN

Also, i been reviewing the custom rcos included in the HEN 4.89 installer to be sure that everything was updated correctly... and less than 24 hours ago i published a couple of fixes for the 272p and 480p resolutions (this is an official bug) that are included in the HEN 4.89 installer too
Lets say... i been reviewing the files that was causing graphic problems in the 4.89 XMB and i think are fine... but if you still have some problem is better to talk in the other thread

This official HFW 4.89.1 release was created by @littlebalup and has been tested over many consoles and situations. Please be aware of several "Unofficial" HFW 4.89 builds that are on the internet. Some of them may work, and some of them are known to have problems.

HFW, by its very nature is a modified version of original OFW, that by itself can be unstable or have unexpected results in some situations, due to the system files (sprx) replaced with older version during the creation process. HFW is meant to be accompanied by PS3HEN, which when fully installed will restore HFW back to a stable OFW state (system sprx), and also includes any other fixes needed.

The official HFW 4.89.1 has a EULA date of May 11, 2022 and an MD5 of 1746FD1A7BA9F6DBB9428C9C64B54B0A

This firmware has been tested with PS3HEN 3.1.0

Huge thanks also to @Joonie @habib for their initial idea of creating an HFW in the first place :)

Thanks to @STLcardsWS for everything he does ;)
this is a Good release, everything installed smoothly & works as it should. Thank you

Ao instalar o hen ele buga o xmb tem um ícone ao lado dos nomes dos jogos do PS3 quando o hen é instalado ele pega esse nome dos jogos e deixa bem grande no canto inferior do xmb

Google Translate:

When installing hen it bugs the xmb has an icon next to the names of the PS3 games when hen is installed it takes that name of the games and leaves it very large in the lower corner of the xmb

Moderator edit: Please include an English translation in future posts - Google is fine. Thank you.

Some of those posts are referring to other builds than the release version.

I didn't experience any xmb issues from clean installs and upgrades from older HFW to 4.89 I also didn't have these issues on older HFW. Nobody reported any issues either.

At least one screenshot looks like it's from one of the HEN 3rd party stores.
I cannot replicate these issues, but when I get home I will make an effort to do so.

Perhaps that's the problem I am having - dirty installation.

I've updated my HFW 4.88.1 with HEN 3.0.3 to HFW 4.89.1.
Then I've installed HEN 3.1.0 from 'old' package that was available on ps3xploit that broke XMB like the screenshots show.
Then I reinstalled HFW to repair the problem - of course HEN is gone at this point.
Once the 'new' package was available on ps3xploit (same as the one in .zip), I've reinstalled HEN through ps3xploit - but the problem was back.

Replacing the explore_plugin.sprx to the one from OFW 4.89 fixes the problem.

That still doesn't make sense. We've used the same explore_plugin since 4.84 and there have been no issues. And again, I tried on slim, ss nor, and ss emmc, with 0 problems. You can try installing debug HEN and post a socat log of loading and moving around xmb, if possible.

I'll test this when I get home, and try replicating your scenario. Without the dex explore_plugin, we have to use another method, like @sandungas posted about for package installer.

I also want to add that the same thing happened to me after updating, with the same fix.

The explore_plugin.sprx overrides have changed, but we don't have any other alternatives right now.

Nice and big thumbs up to @esc0rtd3w. I hope my fellow members can be patient with the new release. It does happen all the time, when something is release there is always a bug, if there is no bug why do we need to update. Guys let's use our brain.
