PS2 How to get POPStarter via SMB to work?

for those ones that want to run ps1 games on ps2 (stable method ) :
Step-by-step :
a) Installing the emulator :
Since POPS (the emulator) is copyrighted by SONY, it can not be redistributed with POPStarter. You have to find it. It's made of 1 file (for USB mode).
POPS_IOX.PAK - MD5 : a625d0b3036823cdbf04a3c0e1648901
1. Find and download POPS_IOX.PAK ;
2. Create a directory named POPS at the root of your USB device ;
3. Copy POPS_IOX.PAK into POPS directory you've just created.
b) Installing your PS1 Games :
POPStarter/POPS doesn't support PS1 disc images as .iso – but only as .VCD.
1. Create a disc image of your PS1 game as .BIN/.CUE ;
2. Drag & drop your .CUE file over CUE2POPS.EXE to convert your BIN/CUE disc image to .VCD file (you can convert several games at once by running BULK_CUE2POPS.BAT) ;
3. Put your .VCD files in mass:/POPS directory.
c) Installing POPStarter :
1. Rename the POPStarter ELF as the name of your VCDs, replace the .VCD extension with a .ELF extension, add the XX. prefix (example : for running a VCD named "Crash Bandicoot.VCD", the POPStarter ELF must be renamed as "XX.Crash Bandicoot.ELF") ;
2. Copy the ELFs in mass:/POPS.
Now, check your setup. It must be the same as this one :
mass:/POPS/POPS_IOX.PAK
mass:/POPS/XX.GAME.ELF
mass:/POPS/GAME.VCD
=> to launch your game, run XX.GAME.ELF.
Note : tired of renaming tons of ELF files ? Put uLE_kHn_20191110/BOOT in mc0:/BOOT folder and put POPSTARTER.ELF (not renamed) in mass:/POPS directory. This special uLE version can launch .VCD directly – just like you would do for any .ELF file.
mass:/POPS/POPS_IOX.PAK
mass:/POPS/POPSTARTER.ELF
mass:/POPS/GAME.VCD
mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF

I did most of the steps but it didn't work. I'm trying to run POPStarter using SMB.

I have found that the renamed XX elfs DO NOT need to be in the POPS folder. You can put them in a folder named as you choose. Mine is ... SONY PlayStation 1. The 3 dots at the start make the folder appear high in the view as the PS2 sees things. The vcds and PAK must remain in the POPS folder. This makes for a much prettier on screen view and faster game selection. Other emulator folders can also be renamed with ... at the start so they appear at the start of the list. Then use the alphabet to get them in perfect order. Use dot-space-dot if you have a folder that needs to be at the top but alpha order does not help.

You mean at the top of your pendrive folder? You're booting them through Ulaunchelf I guess.

Windows10User was trying to boot POPS through SMB btw (so you need SB. as prefix on ELFs) listing POPSTARTER.ELFs as apps in OPL (or maybe using OPL daily build integrated launcher).

Yes to both. I was meaning to reply to post 10 which I followed to get things working - and they do - really well. I'm pretty new to this stuff so sorry for any confusion.

I wanted to run them using SMB, not USB, and do they have stuttering or other issues if ran from USB?

I wasn't using OPL but POPStarter since I use the former's GitHub versions which don't have the latter integrated and I didn't know I could still run POPStarter through these OPL versions from the Apps tab. Maybe I should test that App tab method instead of trying to run POPStarter separately.
