PS2 How to hack PlayStation 2 in 2025? [ROADMAP]

Perhaps I have wrongly build sentence. PS2MC size, not disc size.

OPL/NTR seeking disc images only on: BDM devices, APA disk, network and MMCE.

The only emulators on PS3 which supporting PS2 VHDD are those which using PS2 hw.

The point of virtual devices is to target environment seen them as real. ;) So that questions have zero sense. In example uLE will see VMC as real PS2MC, and VHDD as real PS2 HDD.

ESR doesn't trick ODD to thinking BluRay is DVD... I have no idea from where you dig up such nonsens. :P All PS2 have only CD and DVD laser diodes and not supporting other discs like HD-DVD or BD. ESR is game launcher, which hacking game in several ways to work from DVd-Video. ESR Patcher clearing UDF fs table and writing there short DVD-Video to fool MechaCon that disc is not PS2DVD but DVD-Video. That's because it checks only UDF table, leaving alone ISO9660 if detected DVDV stuff; because CDVDMAN care only for ISO9660; because only DVD-Video can be passthrough by MechaCon on DVD-/+R/RW, while PS2DVD must lie on PS2DVD-ROM which cannot be burned in home but pressed in factory.

So is the PS2 enforcing a volume limit in CDVDMAN? can the PS1 or PS2 emulators be patched to support larger media?
when the PS2 runs games from HDD instead of CD or DVD how does it know to use the HDD filesystem instead? i'm guessing the IRX modules?
ISO9660 support up to 8TB?
UDF support up to 16TB?
BDFS ???

No. I don't know from where you took those conclusions.

PS2 not runs games from HDD but loaders does. Games don't use any HDD filesystem because they don't know about his existence.

Such thing as BDFS not exist.

By loader your refering to PS2LOGO or OSDSYS?
isn't the original HDLoader based off games that stored online update/dlc or game files for faster partial loading? why does OPL or BBL need to use them if it's a full loader replacement? same for that PS1DRV replacement, isn't just hooking & redirecting CDVDMAN data requests to another media path?.
If memory cards where only ever supposed to be officially 8MB how is it able transfer data at 24MBps same goes for the dvd drive, i'm sure if you replaced the dvd drive with something else the io transfer speed would be much higher an the limitation of dvd9 would be gone.

By any homebrew game loader like OPL, HDL, USBA, PS2ESDL, NTR etc.

No, it isn't.

OPL or PS2BBL does not using them. And they aren't PS1DRV replacement.

It is not matter of redirecting paths. It is matter of several serious game hacks performed on the fly to handle devices/protocols/filesystems which none game have.

Who told you that PS2MC supposed to be only 8MiB? As I said, MCFS supporting max 512MiB without standard violations.

SIO2 does not transferring data in 24MiB/s... At best you can get is ~3MiB, in reality MMCE gets ~1.7MiB/s.

Sorry if i'm annoying you, it's kinda difficult refering to the PS3 in PS2 or PS1 emulation mode & understanding if Sony imposed extra limitations for compatibility vs real hardware, whilst still discussing apps that can be used on both, am I suppose to discuss them in a PS3 thread or their original PS1 or PS2 thread.
I feel like making extra threads further fragments developer support away from the original thread until we know it's 100% compatible with both, then we should open discussion for them in a PS3 thread or where testing builds specifically targeted for PS3 usage instead.

So what makes it any better than USB if it's really that slow? I thought memory card was supposed to be an improvement so you don't get lag on less compressed audio & video.

You don't annoying me, you just repasting ChatGPT hallucinations. ;D It is horrible tool to use in context of any console scene.

USB in PS2 (none PS2 emulator in PS3 using USB 2.0) is 1.1. So its read speed is ~600KiB/s. MMCE grants ~1300-1700KiB/s (depend of model, slower here are Deckard models).
