PS3 How to remove the version spoof without knowing how it was done?

I bought a CECH-2512a which was already installed with cfw in 2017. I don't know what cfw it is. It just show 4.82 in xmb, and in mmCM and rebug toolbox it is 4.81 (A strange thing is, the seller and I didn't update cfw since 2017. We don't know why the version shown in mmCM is 4.81.....). Now I want to update to the latest cfw. But there is a version spoof and I don't know how to remove it (the seller also forget how he did it). I search a lot on the Web but can't find a solution (it is said differeny ways for version spoofing cannot be used interchangablely).

A related post is this: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/clean-install-from-cfw.22408/ . But it says I need first to update cfm. I am not sure if I can update cfw, since removing version spoof first is a requirement in the update instruction.

I just want to update to the latest cfw, no matter whether the current content is erased or not. Could someone help me. Thanks!

try to install the new cfw PUP file. if QA Flag was enabled by whoever set it up, then it will install anyway.

if it fails, use rebug toolbox to enable qa flag and try to install again.

Thanks for the reply!
Just to make sure: by "install" you mean selecting "system update -> from external storage" in XMB to install new cfw in a u-disk, right? If I intall new cfw in this way, will the spoof be removed automatically and safely?

Yes just installing a new firmware will remove it. And there isn't any need to worry about safety. The files a spoof alters can not cause a brick. The older ones could be an issue but not anymore. Not much more then txt file edits.

Thanks! I updated the system to rebug lite 4.86. I think the instruction in this form for installing cfw needs a update too.

Do not know why it would need an update. Process hasn't changed since the first CFW bud. Anyhow I am glad you got it sorted sir.
