PS3 *Install All Packages* ( the order of witch manager will install first)

Im not sure about this, I guess its not random but who knows, I have seen randomness before on the ps3.

Here is one place I have seen it. My CFW Toolbox application installs about 20 applications in one go, it just copies all the data into the game folder with xai_plugin and then rebuilds the database. Well every time I do that, the apps end up in a different order on the XMB, seems to be random. You would think it would copy in the same order every time and then the database rebuild would find them in the same order every time, but no.

Have you tried this, if you just throw like 20 random small packages on there, is it always the same order? If it is always the same, you need to do that, and then analyze the order and the packages to find the difference. Try things then like repacking 1 package, and renaming 1 package, to see if that changes the order, its probably simple enough if its not random.
Yes i try it last week the order still the same but not related with time or name

I figured it out on my first test lol.

Its the order you copy them onto the stick in. simple as that.

Lol and we think too much hhh i will test this hhhh with smal size pkg each one have 1 or 2 mb and can we change this order ?

I suppose you can change the order somehow once they are on the stick. Maybe its in the TOC of the file system of the stick, IDK. Easiest way is to just copy them on in the order you want them to install in.

No idea. I just know it works.

Naming them like 001_xxxxx.pkg, 002_xxxxx.pkg etc etc before copying should work. As if you copy them all in one go then, they should copy in correct order.

i try this but it start from 022 then 029 then 08 ...etc hhhh

Oh right. I see. Well then how come you did not think they were installing based on size?

hhhh my mind was confused from the first time i think that this function "Install All Packages" will install from A to Z and the thing of copy order will be maintained the same in ps3 didn't come to my mind and as you say early the is an index of files created by the filesystem(system) same time when the copy starts

Ah yeah. TBH I think I read this somewhere before years ago that it was based on copy order, was in the back of my mind. I just had not read the entire thread so I assumed you had already checked that, then decided to check it anyway in my first test to rule it out.

Its actually better like this, because you can set the order easily enough without having to rename files, but also you can copy them alphabetically or sorted any other way, and have them install that. So its the best of all worlds, just sort before copy.

Yeah cause if an update of a game is installed before the game pkg it self it will say you have newer version already installed so we copy game pkgs first then copy the update pkg then ps3 will install all game pkg then all update pkg to avoid that error that cut the Install All Packages operation :)

As i told you i copy Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate pkgs to my Externel HDD (sorted by name like in the posted photos) and the order is right it install first part then second then the update :)

So to sort pkg in usb flash u need to copy files in order or what?

  • PS3 will follow same sort order when a user copy pkg to USB drive so when user copy pkg sorted by alphabet ps3 will install by alphabet
  • when user copy pkg sorted by small size to big ps3 will start install from small size to big one ... etc

Yes, the first package copied to the mass storage device will be the first to install. and so on.

Is there any tool to use so we can edit TOC fs of flash to sort again? or need instead of format flash and again copy pkg files in order ? So we can easily can sort it in flash ?
