PS2 Internal HDD won't show up in browser

DVD Scan was used for changing media check and it works more like guessing, in some cases could overwrite different code. ;p //yeah, I see that You edited post

UltraISO doesn't converting CD disc image to DVD but recreating it. Which is bad idea as many games checking LBA.

Maybe it will work on SUDC4 but, what is the reason for dong it, I dunno. ;p

Yeah i edited it, later i remembered that i used UltraIso most of the times xD
Well it kinda worked. It booted up to the main menu of SUDC4 but after that whatever i choose it will stuck at a pink screen from ESR.
Looks like i will boot it up using the modchip xD

Hello ! :D

I got my first HDD adapter for the PS2.
It's a Gamestar SATA adapter.
The problem is that it won't show up in the Browser menu.
Is it because it's a clone ? Only official adapters shows up like this ?

Tested on stock PS2 SCPH-39004.
hey man have you gotten your hdd to work on the ps2 ? i still cant figure out why mine isnt working as well :frown new:

No, because it is CD image. ESR uses PS2 disc content on DVD disc disguised as DVD-Video, while for CD such thing could be done only via CDX or UMCDR (but such project is dead, it using similar trick but disguise PS2 content as Audio CD). In the tutorial, I showing how to unpack data from disc image, and unpack data from PAK archives (HDDOSD1.10U) to move on HDD so You don't need to run this disc on PS2.
i am having the same issue as nickxxab stated. would you be so kind to guide me how to use the SUDC4 as i have it in CD image and dont know what to do next. i usually just plug in the HDD into the adaptor straight to ulunchelf and format it but its not showing my HDD status as connected for some reason on some consoles

got it but how do i use it ? is there a guide or tutorial ?i couldnt find anything related to SUDC4 in google just links but no tutorials how to use it
Once you have formatted your HDD with wLE, burn SUDC4 to a CDR and run it, select HDD Utility Disc v1.10 in the HDD Software submenu and choose to install without formatting.
If your PS2s cannot read the CDR, you're out of blank disc or something, see https://www.psx-place.com/threads/32416/#post-274005

thank you very much for your reply. i am having an issue actually that the ulunchelf isnt detecting my hdd for some reason. thats my main issue. to install wLE do i just copy the wLE.elf into the usb and lunch it from my current ulunchelf ?

If uLE doesn't see the HDD, SUDC will also not. It is not a matter of used application but something on hardware level.

How to install HDD OSD without burning disc, is described in tutorial: APA Partitionology.

i appreciate your reply. i thought this would resolve my issue about the HDD not being connected

  • NA can be broken;
  • HDD could not fit ideally to PATA and/or Molex port and it's inserted biased;
  • one of ports can be pluck out;
  • inserted NA+HDD doesn't have full connection with console after inserting this stuff (it is the most common issue);
  • if You are using SATA, controller can sucks (like GameStar; better are as I heard BitFunx v1.0 and 2.0) and then it would be software issue;
  • HDD is to large (do not exceed 1TiB)

alright so heres the story, i am using gamestar NA as i have always been " this is my 7th NA from gamestar actually and never had this issue before as a faulty NA..yet" on some consoles whenever i connect the HDD to the PS2 and lunch ulunchelf or wLE to format the HDD it shows the status as connected: No . on one of the consoles i was trying to format 1TB HDD which has been successfully connected and once i hit the format button it got stuck and had to reboot the console then it started not to connect any other HDDs even though they are working fine on other consoles.

so i am confused here as i have latterly tried every possible solution and that even i have created a thread for it
Code:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/internal-hdd-not-being-detected-by-opl-and-ulunchelf.33679/#post-291162
. i think the consoles i am trying to have the HDD connected are modchipped. i dont know if that helps but thought about mentioning it

Why You didn't do what I'm said in linked thread?

Modchips patching firmware so maybe theirs atad patches conflicting with gamestar. Hard to say...

Sorry to revive this thread but I have looked everywhere and I'm stuck at this very step. I am new to softmodding so please be patient with me. :)

I burned the SUDC4 image to a CDR, but my PS2 will not read the disc. Do I need to have a modchip PS2 in order to read this disc or is there any other way to launch the CDR?

Of course You must to run code from CD-R/DVD-R. But since You have NA+HDD, You don't need any disc.

Instead:
  1. Write disk image with __mbr file from KrHACKen's wLE port to HDD.
  2. It will automatically boot to his wLE, so go to USB and run FMCB/FHDB installer and install FHDB.
  3. On PC decrypt and unpack update package with HDD OSD from SUDC4.
  4. use wLE (PS2) or PFS Fuse (PC) to copy files in proper places (but HDD OSD executable name "hosdsys.elf").

Perfect, did all that. Followed the instructions perfectly. The only other thing that I have questions is about one step that seems to be missing from the PDF. In other threads I see people renaming the OSD and FSCK directories from the extracted PAK to osd100 and fsck100. Is this absolutely necessary to make this work and are there any other steps not included in the PDF that I need to be aware of?

Leave just "OSD" (and never change uppercase/lowercase of FHDB and HDD OSD executables and resources). Yet all other mentioned fir names are also proper as update seeking them too.

Tutorial in PDF doesn't covers micro image (__mbr) writing to HDD (disk image from uLE kHn). Everything else is there.

I have update with some more stuff but I don't know when to finish and publish it (currently covering in addition: PFS Fuse, ELF signing, OPL basics). Next version will be also in English.
