I received my PS3 five days ago now. It has 4.92 firmware and a 40Gb HDD, so I'll probably have to install a large SSD soon.
Unfortunately, some of my posts on the PS3 forum have been moved here, where I don't think many PS3 fans will see them.
I'm still getting used to the PS3 type controllers, which I've never used before.
I downloaded two RPG demos, but only one of them runs. I had more than one copy of these, and no matter if I'm logged into the Playstation Store or not, they just keep saying "Installing..." when I try to run them.
I bought six disc based games from a second hand shop, then had to return two because one ("Civilization: Revolutions") gave an error code and the other ("DJ Hero") requires a special controller, then I got two replacements. I've now got "Aliens vs Predator", "Aliens: Colonial Marines", "Dead Space", "Game of Thrones", "Assassins Creed", and "Madden 11". I've managed to eject discs which got stuck. Obviously, I like strategy and sci fi themed games.
Unfortunately, I haven't managed to make any progress in these games, because I soon come up against obstacles I can't get past. In both of the Aliens games these are locked doors. In "Aliens vs Predator" the door comes up right after the long intro. I can't even blast my way through it and in the other directions there's just darkness. I managed to change the hangar bay door status to "Open Door" in "Aliens: Colonial Marines", but I still couldn't open it, then I wandered off, but found northing else to do. I'll be searching everywhere for information about how to get past these doors unless someone on here can help. I've hardly played "Game of Thrones" at all yet.
On "Madden 11", I've played one full game where I lost by 8 to 13. I've played previous versions on various platforms. I think it's much better than the real life game, because almost all of it is action, instead of stopping and talking most of the time. I think the NFL should change their rules to make the game as fast paced and short as Madden, instead of having the ball in play for only about 15 minutes for the whole game, which usually lasts 2.5-3 hours.
I don't know if I can save any of my game progress yet. I used the card format utility, but was confused that it only offered PS format and PS2 format cards. I had to leave "Madden 11" running in pause mode while I went off to do other things because of this. I couldn't find any option to save my progress.
I've recently seen some videos which make it look very easy to install CFW, followed by ManaGunZ, which also enables PS2 and PSP games to run, but I think I might just stick to PS3 games. In future I'll just post on the PS3 forum and I must ask moderators not to move my posts into the PS4 forum. I don't know if I'll ever bother getting a PS4.
