PS3 Is it possible for the PS3 to brick while it is updating the system/firmware?

hello! I'm afraid of updating my ps3 slim 25xx to evilnat 4.91 and in the middle of the update process there will be an interruption, either due to a power outage/blackout that causes it to brick, if this happens, what should I do?

You must have a hardware flasher for the NOR chip, but I don't recall any on sale recently (I want to buy one too).

The best thing you could do is to get an UPS and connect your PS3 to it during the update process. In case of a power cut, the UPS should kick in and provide power long enough for the update process to finish.

I've heard about it, but could you give me more info? My CECH-2511A is a 3.56 minver console, and in the past, I used the 9.99 downgrader for some reason. I just recall that upgrading afterward was a bit troublesome because it kept prompting for a 9.99 firmware.

I don't remember how i fixed it.

i don't remember ever using them myself. i'm just saying what i have read long ago. as i think about it now, maybe you would be able to access recovery mode.

are you sure that you could boot to xmb after installing 999?

IIRC yes, but that was a long time ago. I may be wrong, but I never needed to use a hardware flasher.

If it failed to boot to XMB, I recovered it via the recovery menu. I vaguely remember the recovery menu asking for firmware version 9.99 or newer.

No, it won't work. The flash memory must be updated correctly, with valid checksums. Without that, the console will not boot.

In some rare cases, that may or may not work if you have a soft brick on a NOR console, and only after the NOR flash memory update ended.

from what I recall, there are fake flasher boards, which will not work. the data lines on the mainboard itself (located at the panasonic connector) are messed up and look very different, compared to legit working ones. you can identify them on E3Flasher brand logo on the coverboard, which letters look somehow blurred.

the last E3Flasher I have ordered only had this cheaply made coverboard, with blurred letters, but the mainboard itself was legit. you can check this on psxtools, where they have given some tips to check for fakes

I'll check it out because it's pretty hard to import stuff here in Argentina, and it's not worth the trouble to go through that mess to get a non-working device (at this point, I'm not even asking for a real E3 flasher ha ha).
