PS3 Just got my first (working) PS3 60GB CECHC04 !!

I found the only 60GB PS3 (CECHC04) in my region on LeBonCoin (a site like Craigslist in France). It was reasonably priced and fully functional.

Aesthetically, the console is in great shape very few scratches. It's missing the PS logo, but the warranty sticker is still intact.

I contacted the seller and asked to go to ps3toolset.com/bgtoolset, then navigate to the System Manager tab and give me the system uptime, Syscon revision, and the list of Syscon errors.

The console have a 90nm RSX, has been used for nearly 70 days total, and the only errors listed were 1001 (Power Cell) and 1004 (Power AC/DC).

So it looks like Errors 1001 and 1004 were caused by an improper shutdown, but I'll still run a stress test to investigate further and see if they reappear under load, just to rule out any early signs of NEC/TOKIN capacitor failure.

Either way, I plan to replace the NEC/TOKINs as a preventative measure to extend the system's lifespan and ensure long-term stability.

I tested the system, and apart from some heat and a slightly loud fan, everything worked fine.
I installed CFW 4.92.2 Evilnat and set up Webman to control the fan speed and monitor temperatures in-game.

I played The Last of Us for 1 hour and Gran Turismo 6 for 17 minutes (it was 3 AM, was too tired to keep going haha).

So far, no problems at all. The fan ramps up to around 46% to keep the temps below 68°C. No crashes, no artifacts, no issues.

I also tested PS2 disc compatibility, no issues there either. Everything on the console works as expected.

I made a LV1 dump to check who manufactured the RSX and get the binning info.

rsx: b08 500/650 vpe:ff shd:3f [AP0006007:1:1:11:c:12:2:f:1][16:3:1:1:1:3:1][0:0:0]
  • RSX made by Toshiba ? (Sony ??)
  • Binning: 3 (regular)
I ordered the full delid toolset from ps3delidtool.com and plan to get to work on this CECHC04 as soon as the kit arrives.

Here's what I'll be doing:
  • Full internal dust cleanup
  • Replace Nec/TOKIN with tantalizer 0.9b by RIP-Felix for Cell and RSX
  • Delid the CPU and RSX
  • Replace thermal paste under and over the IHS (Arctic MX-4)
  • Replace thermal pads (from the delid kit)
  • Install a bracer
  • Disassemble, clean and lubricate the Blu-ray drive (using SuperLube Multi-Purpose Synthetic Grease with Syncolon, part No. 21030)
  • Replace the missing PS logo
  • Undervolt the system
I'll update this thread once I receive the delid kit, Tantalizer and bracer (or some details I need to share).
If you have any tips, feel free to share, I'm all ears!

edit #1 : Thanks to @NightLess, I will upgrade to a dual laser BD410 and add a SSD

I recently serviced a CECHB and I did the to do list you listed.
But one thing I missed, that Blu-ray drive was very slow to read in vertical position, you might want to test the drive.I will plan to upgrade it to dual laser BD410.

Deliding is risky. Rethink that, especially that your temperatures are ok.
I have some non-BC fat PS3s that I'll be training on no worries!
The temps are okay, but 50% fan speed is kind of high (and the noise is horrible too), but hey, it's a PS3 hahaha!

Hmm, nice catch. I've noticed some trouble loading certain games but is it the hard drive (an old 60GB) or the disc drive? (The game required installation on the HDD.)

With some PS2 games, anything related to cinematics or videos tends to take a long time to load. For example, in Gran Turismo 4, the intro barely plays, and in the arcade menu, the video doesn't play at all the car just stays in place.

So I will plan to upgrade it to dual laser BD410 and add a SSD (thanks to Berion for this guide : https://www.psx-place.com/threads/guide-ssd-for-playstation-3.42499/)

Issues with PSX/PS2/PSP games aren't related to hw but to emulation which emulators providing. In case of your GT4, blame the emulator. Try on different (switchable in WMM).

You can use SSD, but some people report that SSDs can cause some issues. I chose a 7200 RPM 1T CMR HDD.

I'll try it out!

Yep, I noticed that, I have some 1TB SSDs and HDDs, so I'll try both.

Becount show that have been using it for 121 days. I don't know how long it will last. I usually use my frankie.

Use it, it's the first purpose of this console.
121 days may seem short, but it's like a lottery. Some PS3 BC units have failed in less than 50 days, but yours is a Frankie.
It's like a car, maintenance is the key.

It seems like I have a KES-410 laser (according to the CFW tool from Evilnat 4.92.2 / Cobra 8.5).
I'll need to confirm it when I dismantle the console.
