Are you an artist or would like to contribute to the scene in some way?

Well, one of the most-missing things in the Homebrew-scene are some good MC/OSDSYS-Icons!

If you are interested in creating some 3D and possibly animated Icons for various Homebrew-projects, please reply here!

Btw.: These icons are are meant to be more sophisticated, than those simple cubes!

What needs doing and what would you like the icons to be like? Pic or where I can find the icons that need changing and some context as o what options they are for and stuff like that.

Animated 3D-MC-Icons which use varying symbols for copy/delete and view...

Yes, I have some ideas and some 'standards to be met' lol!

Is there even a program out there to view the 3d icon? I could only ever pull the textures.

I can just open it and it will load? If so then I was totally overcomplicating trying to figure out how lol.

Also the latest version of photoshop from CC14 up with the right tools and plugins should be able to open some 3d objects. While the app isn't free, nor is autodesk, most of the plugins can be found free from open source places.

With Autodesk you may need to import the object. Autodesk is one of the best graphics programs to use, all sorts of industries use it, especially the gaming industry.

What format where the textures? dds? gfx?

No idea. All I know is they are memory icons because I got clever and swapped the icon file in the pcsx2 save file folder with one and it loaded it. Plus I got the surface textures somehow but I don't remember. What I really need is information on how to render the model in c or python but I'm getting off topic here.

The magic is '00 00 01 00 01 00 00 00 0F'

Normally if you swap out icons and they are named the same and in the same format they will be loaded by the app. You need an app that will convert the image into a programming lingo. Or you could make the app call the image from a certain location you specify would most likely be the quickest and simplest way to go about it.

I meant more like documentation on the format but it's not really important as I don't want to derail this thread. Thank you for your assistance!

You are right, the point is all vertex info needs to be converted to the PS2 format
In 3D apps you can "export" to different formats, but which one ?, and which PS2 tool is going to "import" it ?

I remember years ago there was an app that allowed to create a MC icon (dont remember the name right now), but the vertex/polygonal info was predefined in it and only allowed you to choose 3 "primitive" 3D objects. A cube, a variation of the cube (with a rectangled side), and a plane (not 3D), and you could "stamp" a texture on top... but thats all

And i remember to have a nice icon of a tomb raider game with lara croft using complex polygons

Like this? :D

The opl-icon was build in cooperation with berion.

Making this kind of icons is hardcore. The workstation is killed and i dunno if there are backups.
And, it seems i've forgot nearly all.

Animated?
Rip the crazy taxi icon, load it in milkshape 3d and tell me howto... ;)

Greets.

Well, I would prefer NOT using a game-icon as a base. After all this still kind of falls under copyright/IP-Stuff.

The crazy taxi icon is a good *example* for an animated icon.
Have a look at and tell me how to animate a ps2 icon... :D

Yes, but still 'Intellectual property'. ;)

Right, I will post some suggestions, but they will be different 'per app'.
