Multiman: All characters in filemanager turned to symbols

So I added a folder to the mai directory so that I could copy my files into the hard drive freeing up my usb ports. When I did however it turned all my file and folder names to symbols. The system can read those symbols and run the images but I can't tell what is what. I did try a reboot just in case but it still comes back the same. Any ideas?

It's quite old but I think it's a case of encoding characters. Image is not present so I can only guess and write a tip for other users for the future.
