PS5 Mw2 games says insert disc in discless ps5

So I had mw2 on ps4 and got a ps5. The ps4 game had the upgrade to ps5 upgrade for free. Everything went well installed and played multiplayer for months on the ps5. Then this problem came out of nowhere and said to insert disc to play. Has anyone had this problem?

Activision doesn't know what's going on nor does psn. Any ideas or help will be appreciated!

what happens if you put the disc in the ps4, provided you still own it?
wonder if it'll force reevaluate the upgrade condition, and resolve itself if you play it just once, idk tho. weird af tbh and i'm surprised Activision didn't fix their database in this condition, such 'support' :/

If you bought the physical/disc version of the PS4 game and wanted to have PS5 upgrade version for free*, make sure that your PS5 console already have its disc drive because this feature still requires you to have its existing PS4 game disc to run PS5 version. If you're using a digital version of PS5 console, you may shall at least wait for Sony releasing its external optical drive to allow PS5 Digital Version console users to use game discs.

PS: Not all PS4 titles are eligible for free upgrade.

The only thing wrong is it let me play for months on the ps5 with no issue and after their season 2 update it popped up and went away on its own and now it's back. It's gotta be a glitch. If I would have known about this being an issue I would have gotten the disc ps5. I should have known better

He was eligible already and was playing it fine for ages, not to mention the game is asking him to put a disc in a discless system.
I would be equally pissed off.
