PS2 [MX4SIO/SIO2SD] SD Card Adapter and SD-driver for the PS2 SIO2 interface

@TnA : What do you recommend as sectoring (clusters) if I format my 32GB SD card in exFAT ?
I read on the site that 32kb is better than 16kb in this formatting format. Can you give me advice before my team and I start re-testing (with the OPL in BDM4) all the games that we put in the public list on the NET ?

From my testing I can say 32 and 64kb are the best cluster sizes and 32mb cluster size is not working, all between can greatly slow down performance, 128kb is ok if that's default cluster size but better for USBs. These are my checks. ;)

Thank you @Haker120. I will start my tests with a 32GB SDcard on my MX4SIO (the only one I have) and prepare it in 32kb clusters immediately. I will test with my friends the new OPL in BDM4.

Just got a new 128GB Exceria, formatted it with exFAT, 32kb clusters and BDM4 cannot read the card. The card is readable in the PC and there is zero fragmentation.

Thoughts?

*It appears the issue is that the MC2510 doesn't like this model SD card. No matter how I format it, it won't read it.

BDM4 is a huge upgrade! I'm using a 90001 slim with Funtuna and a 256GB Samsung SD card with exFAT (32kb clusters). I'm also using a wireless DualShock 3 with the Brooks Adapter. Pretty much all my games are fully working. I've got 18 loaded so far. Very nice to not worry about games > 4GB.

Any info on trying newer OPL versions after BDM4, or is it best to stick to BDM4? Looks like 1922 is the newest.

Also does anyone know if PS1 games work now on BDM4, or is that still an MX4SIO limitation? I have not tried.

OPL is the only app FOR NOW that has MX4SIO-Support, hence PS1 games or emulators in general don't work (as of yet).

BDM4 is based on rev. 1917.
Just keep it and try/compare it to the newest official OPL Beta builds.

On another note: You also don't need to care about fragmentation! ;)

OK, I didn't know OPL did not support PS1 as I am new to OPL.

Interestingly, I am experiencing stutters in Tekken 5 with exFAT. I swapped back to my FAT32 card and no stutters. I haven't noticed it on any other games so far. I know exFAT is still very new.

Oui, effet, j'ai constaté ce souci avec presque tous les jeux que j'ai re-testé en indiquant BDM4 dans la colonne "OPL-Version". Le FAT32 est plus souple, plus rapide, c'est un constat.

Yes, indeed, I noticed this problem with almost all the games that I re-tested by indicating BDM4 in the "OPL-Version" column. FAT32 is more flexible, faster, it's a fact.

Algol.

Yes, the non-BDM/official OPL Beta-builds have checksumming activated, which uses the IOP and the IOP then often runs at 100% CPU-Time.

The only issue I've had (with BDM3, BDM4 and latest) is Ridge Racer V, which stutters and hitches all the time (even on the menu screens).
It's the only game that's unplayable (along with Star Ocean 3, which crashes on load).

Oh interesting. I just got a later slim model SCPH-90002 with datecode 8D, so I needed to use funtuna so I could load OPL.
Anyway, that all works fine, but the first game I tried was Ridge Racer V because that was stuttering in the FMV on my phat using v1.2.0-Beta-1925-9dedc02, I thought it would be ok on my slim because it should be deckard, but it stutters just the same.

I'm still a bit confused as to what the best version to use for late model slims is. bdm3 seems fine on the Ridge Racer V FMV on my phats and slim.

Hey @chromium ...you should try the new BDM4 for best results with MX4SIO :eagerness:

You can download it from TnA's post here:-

Thanks, I tried that, but the Ridge Racer V opening FMV still has some audio stutter. BDM3 is perfect on that.
I have an SCPH-90002, that has to be deckcard right? It's so new it doesn't even work with FMCB, I had to use funtuna

With BDM4 did you format your MicroSD / SD card to exFAT (with 16k allocation unit size)?

For me BDM4 works better with exFAT, also we aren't limited to maximum of 4GB ISOs, with BDM4 we can place any size game in the DVD folder, no longer do we need to use USBUtil to split larger than 4GB ISOs to smaller parts.

Also with BDM4 we now can use VMC for MX4SIO and the game saves are placed in the VMC folder on the MicroSD / SD card.

Configuring VMC Game Save Files with OPL Manager

⦁ Before configuring VMC for each of your games on your MicroSD, now that your MicroSD card (exFAT) can handle game ISOs larger than 4GB, make sure you have added all the games you want to the DVD folder on your MicroSD before we configure each game's VMC.

Please note:- you can also create a VMC file for each game via the PS2 > OPL > Games List > Options > Configure VMC. However it's much slower this way to create a VMC file per game (takes about 1 minute) when compared to creating a VMC file using OPL Manager on your PC. So only revert to creating a VMC file for a game via OPL on the PS2 if the save file when playing the game doesn't work, which should be very rare.

⦁ With your MicroSD still connected to your PC, and your games already added to the DVD folder, now open and run OPL Manager from your PC.

⦁ As OPL Manager loads up it should now show you all the games you have added to the DVD folder on your MicroSD, so now start at the top of the list and click on the first game to select / highlight it.

⦁ Now look to right hand side of the OPL Manager window and click on Edit CFG box, this should bring up a new window with some options.

⦁ Look around the center for where it says Virtual Memory Cards (VMCs) and put a tick in the box just under #0 and now click New

⦁ A little window should now pop up "Create new VMC" click on "Create" and give it a few seconds to create the VMC file and then press OK once done via the next "Information" window that pops up.

⦁ Now finished creating the VMC file for that game we are going to move to the next game on the list, by pressing the right arrow icon at the bottom of the OPL Manager main CFG Editor window (bottom right hand corner) it will then ask you do you want to save - click Yes

⦁ Repeat these steps for creating a VMC file for each game on your list until you have done them all.
