Hi everyone, I made mine from old defective ps1 memorycard lying around. It work..
I tested it with a Trancend 32gb micro sd formatted fat32. The opl+ bdm3 detected the mx4sio(homemade) and its content ( iso game) inside the microsd mx4sio :/DVD. (SLOT M1)
The Ps2 model used is 70001 (softmodded)
With FREEMCBOOT installed in M0.

this resistor that you described is 1k , in this case it can even be used to put a led as in the post above ... the mx4sio operates without the 47ohm resistor

So it doesn´t matter if the slot is physically free, if MX4SIO is in use, the slot is still being "used"

Soldering the mx4sio directly inside your slot will work(the slot port terminal will be "in use"...so if you insert A memory card on that slot where the mx4sio is soldered inside. I think it will conflict the circuits(the memorycard/mx4sio in one same slot) Unless you can find a way to put some kind of a switch. To switch from mx4sio to memory card vice versa. (Switching mx4sio ON will cancel the memory card. Switching the Memory card on will turn the mx4sio off, if the mx4sio is OFF it will not conflict with the external memory card inserted) something like that
