PS3 Need a Little Help With Switching HEN For CFW

Hello everyone,

I'm getting a 60GB CECHC03 tomorrow and had a few questions. It's running on HEN 4.85 and I want to install Rebug 4.84. Is this console currently on HFW or OFW? Checked out some tutorials and I have a general idea of how to proceed, but I wanted to be sure. Should I start with 4.85 HFW -> Ps3xploit -> QA Flagger and then installing Rebug CFW?

I'm on the fence about making the switch also, but I have a slim minver 3.40.
By doing that would I loose my saves or games already on the internal? Since it has some downgrade involved I would like to know.

Don't think you'll lose anything if you just change it to HFW because everything's still in your hdd unless you format it.
But just wait for some more confirmations just to be sure.

No, any installed games will not be removed, nor would any save games. You could back up your save files first for peace of mind, but they won't be affected by installing CFW. Likewise, any game backups, say for example in dev_hdd0/PS3ISO will also not be affected by the switch over from HEN to CFW.

As it stands you are on HFW, although OFW and HFW are basically one and the same.

Does this same technique work on 4.89 i want to switch cfw i have a slim ps3 with hen

To install CFW, there are none (unless you have a hardware flasher like E3 or Teensy, not for the faint of heart).

If you need to run homebrew, backups and such, you still have HEN.

Well I guess so I wanted to switch to cfw because ps2 games weren't working specifically naruto ultimate ninja and the other ps2 game were giving me problems

it uses an alternative bgtoolset (let me clarify i dont know the owner of the site and he may have virus in his site so please use ad blocker and cookie blocker just in case)

oh i didnt know this either. it didnt brick mine but thanks also for the heads up i just saw it and didnt pay mind

it prob only worked for me because it was an old second hand slim from europe. so maybe Putin's bgtoolset didnt target my console thinking it was ally lol.
Anyways sorry if ur console bricked man i didnt check site was risk-free

It can work, but it can also brick..
The problem is its using an incomplete reversed version and removes all safety checks as well.
So it can go okay for some and brick other's that why its so dangerous and the people putting it out know this but they are not relaying that information to people.. They just want to be the ones with a solution while the official is down.

Then it gets even more dangerous when people say it worked for me, just adding more confusion for someone and giving a false sense of that its safe. It can work but it can brick and with PS3HEN there is no need to risk for most people.

absolutely you are right and i apologize i should've checked and thats my mistake i just hope firebot didnt end up having to replace his console or anything if it bricked

No need to apologize, now you know you did not before. its the people who know and are doing the stuff and they are not apolgizing to anyone.. Now its just about educating the next person that's all you can do :)
