The newlib port has been merged! Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible. Let's hope this will make future porting and homebrew on the ps2 more easy. And hopefully we'll see lots of great projects on the ps2 in the future.
Becouse this change requires existing ps2 applications to be changed, we have created tags "v1.0" to point to the old toolchain. So if an old/incompatible application needs to be compiled, the old toolchain can still be compiled, but it will no longer be maintained.
The only thing left to do is change existing ps2 applications to use newlib. I've already made the changes to OPL and will send the PR soon. The BMP issue should be fixed, but it's not yet confirmed.
Thanks @Maximus32 for all the effort and dedication that you're doing to bring the best things to PS2.
Newlib was crucial to make development easier in general.
It is a pleasure to collaborate with you!
This is "A small step for you, but a GIANT LEAP for PS2-Development!"
(Nah , not sooo "small step" obviously... A lot of hard work, but I suppose you understand how I mean it!)
This will make it easier to port (newer) stuff! It's awesome!
