I'm trying at the moment, I've seen a few different tutorials including the one here, others claims you've got to edit the ..bsa with an hex editor, or that you've got to convert textures to DDX which I wasn't able to, the tool crashed.
But I can confirm that some mods work directly from nexus, Luminosity Lighting Overhaul, Pure Weathers and ELFX weathers all seem ok.
Purity works too but had to remove most textures except for the sky (which is what matters to me anyway), water looked really bugged and it lagged a lot more than vanilla, trimming down the size of the textures didn't seem to make much of a difference either.
Regular ELFX (the latest) unfortunately has some weird wireframe gray and green looking lines over some textures so I had to remove it which is a shame cause it looked great and you could even see the new effects but had that artifacting around.
In my opinion the best way to mod models for noobs is removing the original textures and meshes you are gonna use from "SKYRIM - TEXTURES.BSA" and "SKYRIM - MESHES.BSA" because you don't have to make custom .esm and .esp, you can put the files in the DATA folder (All the folders, files and extensions renamed to mayus/uppercase), if the .BSA's don't have the files the game will pick the ones in those folders, the only needed texture conversion is resize to 1K and below, .dds files work fine, the game can load some 2K textures but it take ages and can crash your system, things like monsters and statues can also be replaced, things like new armors, weapons or companions can be added if they use skelletons, sounds, particles, hairstyles or spells that are already in the game if you resize the textures, if the mod has a .bsa you must uncompress it to resize and compress again.
Sadly I no longer have mods to share but there's a little tuto I made, hope it helps
:
- Download base CBBE or UNP from nexusmods, mods with custom skelletons (the ones that add bouncy tits for example) won't work.
- Download and install Paint.Net.
- Using paint.net resize all the main body textures and the ones that have rainbow colors to 1024x1024 and the others like the hands or heads to 512x512 or 256x256 or similar resolution that match the original ratio (i.e. 2048x1024 to 512x256), don't mess with other stuff , if you edit them you should follow a more advanced tutorial.
- Download the last BSAopt, using BSAopt open SKYRIM - MESHES.BSA (the file is in skyrim's game folder)
- Click on "game" then check Skyrim (Xbox 360)
- Click the "browse" at the bottom, browse to the folder you are gonna use for the new file, name the file as SKYRIM - TEXTURES.BSA and press enter, if you do it right the app will stop working for some seconds and the "Copy" and/or "Unpack" button at the bottom will change to "Convert".
- Uncheck all the files that your mods are using.
- Click on Convert and wait until your .BSA is completed, do the same for SKYRIM - TEXTURES.BSA.
- In your PS3 swap your .BSA files for the converted ones.
- Download Advanced Renamer and use it to rename to uppercase all the files, folders and extensions of your mods, then copy all the MESHES and TEXTURES folders to the DATA folder in you skyrim game folder.
