PS3 OFW 4.87

At the moment, not currently. The PS3 Toolset is still to be updated to support OFW/HFW 4.87, and then you will be able to apply the patch and install CFW on your slim model :)

I'm on CFW 4.86 and it's running great Why even upgrade? There is no benefit.

4.87 upgrade is needed to connect to PSN and/or game online, as I understand it. I keep all my HFW/CFW systems offline, personally. If you do the same, then I believe you are right... No benefit that I'm aware of. I'm currently on 4.86 HFW/HEN with my CECH-3xxx's and on 4.86 Rebug with my CECH-2501A.

i didnt like hen :(

If CFW is that strong of a preference for you, there are 2 possibilities that I'm aware of:

1 - If your system's FW can be rolled back to 4.86, then roll it back and install your CFW of choice.

2 - Check out @Evilnat 's 4.87 CFW here:
UPDATE - noBD / noBT / noBD-noBT version released (for broken consoles)
dFollowing the recent release of SEN Enabler the developer behind the homebrew app @Evilnat, has decided to create and release a Custom Firmware (CFW) for 4.87. Now, we have the first CFW appear from a trusted source for 4.87. Evilnat's CFW, the custom firmware is powered by the COBRA 8.20 payload, making it what is known as a "Cobra CFW". Cobra CFW payload comes equipped with additional features and abilities out of the gate like background loading of plugins, ISO Support to name a few, over time a "Standard" type cfw can replicate many Cobra features in Mamba,

For additional 4.87 release's for Homebrew & CFW, check out this post here in the psx-place forums: Then for more information and to see the release thread and discussion checkout the release thread at the link at bottom of the article.

If neither of these options will work for you, HEN for now and wait just a little longer for the devs to get 4.87 fully rolled out. ;)

Sorry to ask, does it take always this long to update the toolset @ ps3xploit? Must have been a week now. Maybe they forgot to disable the system maintenance notification :biggrin2:

@bguerville is working hard over the holidays. I know I saw a msg he posted about issues with the update, but that it was being fixed. I also know that he said from the beginning that it will take as long as it takes, and will not be released for public consumption until he's tested it extensively and is satisfied with the results.

I kinda love that, honestly... I used to play CoD for years, and can't remember the last time one of those games ran properly on launch day... If Activi$ion had the same quality assurance practices as BG, I'd probably still be buying their games...

At the very last minute, esc0rtd3w proposed to add 4.80 cex & dex support in this update so I made the necessary changes yesterday, the release was already delayed by 4 days, making it 5 does not make much of a difference.
Now esc0rtd3w still needs to run a few tests on 4.80 to ensure everything is working smoothly.
Testing is very time consuming, elaborate series of steps must be performed on all fw versions, cex & dex, ofw, cfw on NOR, NAND & emmc models, and taking into account unusual fw situations like Rebug CFW where vsh can be dex when the kernel is cex etc..
Testing must include all operations success & failure cases.
Minor issues may arise only in very specific conditions & be quite difficult to spot.
And everytime an issue is found & fixed, the testing process needs restarted, sometimes for the entire range of test cases.
Tbph I am very grateful to have esc0rtd3w taking care of much of the necessary testing with dedication.
Anyway I don't expect any particular problem during this last testing phase, every issue found during the past 5 days has been ironed out & the update appears stable now, I don't think 4.80 will bring any nasty surprise. Fingers crossed. Lol

Anyway, the PS3 Toolset v1.1 will finally support all 4.8x firmwares (well actually all cex but for dex, it's limited to the versions we have access to).

@esc0rtd3w

Thank you for helping out with a project that is obviously important to so many.

Personally, I only play offline unless I'm on vanilla OFW, so I'm still on 4.86, but even if I wasn't, I'd rather wait 6 months for a well-worked solution than wait 6 days for a buggy nightmare. I know I've said this to BG, but to esc0rtd3w as well, please take all the time you need. Based on everything I've used in the past with BG's name attached, the quality is worth waiting for... :highly amused:

1. The PS3 Toolset has never been updated since its initial release. Only one fix was needed (the bug affected NAND consoles only) & pushed soon after that release, it is specifically because we took all the time that was needed to test properly that there was no need for further updates or regular fixes down the line.
2. Sorry to have to tell you this but I feel I need to manage expectations & remind people that the PS3 Toolset project is not a commercial app, there are no official ETAs, there are no obligations to meet, no customers to satisfy, and given the lack of donations these past months, not even donators to please.
It's a personal project that I develop during my limited spare time & which fruits I share freely at my leisure. So please be patient, I cannot work faster or find more free time.

@bguerville
take your time man. As you said, you do it all for free and if you want you can stop doing it all whenever. But thanks your good will that you haven't stopped yet. Gbwy!

@RetrogamerX Where did you read/hear that? Is it true?

@bguerville Many thanks to you and the rest of the team for the work you do and for sharing it with us! If I may ask, are the tests you say esc0rtd3dw does done manually? I mean, does he upgrade/downgrade firmwares by hand in order to test? Or maybe he has a lot of PS3s :) (which, I guess, still requires changing firmwares)?

He does everything manually.
He usually tests with 3 consoles, 1 old phat (nand), 1 slim (nor) & 1 superslim (emmc). He also acquired a different superslim (nor) for testing certain things.
He upgrades & downgrades fw to perform all the necessary tests I described earlier from 4.80 included right up to 4.87.
On phat & slim, he runs tests on ofw & cfw (cex & dex) for each fw version.
