PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Game Bug Reports

What do you mean by "clear all settings"?? To delete the opl cfg file??

I thought about it. That maybe some OPL settings could affect the compatibility, since the game wotked for me before. I tried to set my OPL as I had it last year, but I can't remember exactly…
It worked for me from the start in the vanilla build of 0.9.3, but after booting the 1220 beta build, I had to remove all Game Settings and rewrite OPL's settings. I made sure the bonus features are turned off, too (cheats, GSM, parental control). After that, it worked with the beta as well.
With MODE3, MODE6, MODE 8, MDMA2 the loading bar fill-up a little more (95%)
It needs MODE 2 as well.

I removed all settings before each test and I don't use Cheats / GSM / Parental Control etc.

I will try again with IDE and vanilla 0.9.3 though because I'm curious as to why it works on your setup and not ours.

The only thing I can add: I have an HDD formatted with sp193's HDGL Installer and checked for any errors with sp193's HDD Checker (and there were no errors).

The game works like a charm with that combination of compatibility modes and MDMA2. It freezes if I change anything.

The point is just that, the game doesn't work anymore for me, even with OPL 0.9.3 with whom I set the game to perfectly work last year (or maybe 2 years ago actually…).
This lead me to think about the adaptor, it's the only thing I changed and @Tupakaveli confirm that with his experience too.

I'm pretty sure there must be a way to make it work with our configuration, since the game perfectly works with HDLoader and older OPLs. But I still can't figure out what's causing this issue.

It needs MODE 2 as well.

Yes, for you ;) For me with MODE2 enabled too the bar gauge fill up to 90%, Without MODE2 instead I can even reach an awesome 95%!!

You delete all this OPL cfg files??

Ignore that bar unless the game actually loads. It needs Mode 2 on all configs, believe me. Without Synchronous Mode, it will not work correctly even if you manage to boot it.

@Grahf

Confirmed working with unmodified Sony NA and 7200rpm IDE HDD on OPL r1220.

Formatted with WinHIIP.

MDMA2 + Mode 2 + Mode 3 + Mode 6 + Mode 8

Indeed I had the game set with MODE 2, MDMA 0 (with the gamestar). I'm now just trying everything to just make the game overstep the loading screen (hoping it's possible) with my current configuration.

With only MODE 2 and MDMA 2 it freezes??

EDIT: Someone managed to make this game work from SMB or USB perhaps??

EDIT2: @Tupakaveli If it freezes, see if you can IGR

With IDE HDD and unmodified NA it works with only MDMA2 + Mode 2

Probably it works with MDMA 0 too. So I think I remember correctly. It worked for me with the SONY NA even with the sata hdd (but using the bitfunx sata board).
Maybe the maxdiypower board has a particular speed/latency that cause problems to OPL (with this game).

Can you please do this: set MODEs in a way to make the game freeze at the loading screen, then see if you can IGR. Try with every MODEs OFF, UDMA 4 first.

I've found through extensive testing that Mode 3 + Mode 6 + Mode 8 are needed as well to ensure the game doesn't freeze later on in menus and during gameplay. Plus, anything faster than MDMA2 also causes issues.

I used to play this game with only MODE 2, MDMA 0 and it never crashed. I haven't finished the game, but played it enough to notice a similar problem I think.
It maybe depends on HW (NA, HDD, sata board if used…).

It loads fine with no Modes and UDMA4 although I only played for 5 mins.

Earlier I played for about an hour with Grahf's settings and there were no issues.

I don't know if it can be of help to a dev, but I noticed only one difference between OPL/HDLoader when starting the game.

With HDLoader just after booting the game it appears the blue screens, then after a while (some seconds) show up the Language options. No matter the DMA speed, the Language options take a while to appear even in U6.

With OPL instead after the blue screen, the Language options appear much more quickly (no matter the DMA setting).

@Grahf can you IGR after the game freezes (obviously I mean with MODE 6 OFF)??

Yes, a developer's nightmare indeed!

Well,... Mode 7 is unused and maybe a 'thread-sync'-function/mode could help, but that would still probably only fix 'one side' of the issue (if the threading is part of the issue).

Per-game-patches might be better for some more games, but it seems quite some games need modes they didn't need before (since a while).

@Grahf: He doesn't mean OPL's IGR, but the game's IGR (OPL's IGR disabled via Mode 6 on... You have it that way already...)

He asked to test if the game's IGR does work, once the game froze (set it to a non-working transfer-mode)... If it does, that means that not the entire thing has crashed and that's what this test is meant for...

I didn't bother with IGR because it was freezing the game to begin with.

I meant what @TnA said. I want to know if it's normal for everyone to can IGR after the game crash. At least with the SONY NA (with the gamestar you have to hard-power off the Ps2 after the freeze).

Anyway it's strange that you need all those MODES to be enabled.
...Have you perhaps Gran Turismo 4 or Metal Gear Solid 2 Subsistence??
