PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Game Bug Reports

Through ETH with Win XP max speed that "allows" textured to be fully loaded is 850 kB/s.
With Win 10 max speed is 870 kB/s.

OK, so we can settle on 850 kB/s as the most compatible speed for all devices. I also decided to take @jolek's concerns regarding 1500 kB/s in Shadow Man 2 into account. I tested the game extensively with a value as low as I think we can go without crippling the game's performance too much. Based on this testing, 1200 kB/s is the zen reading speedfor HDD in Shadow Man 2.

Now we need to think what's the best way to implement this into OPL.

I think that we should add three selectable values to Mode 1: the current speed (DVD games), 1200 kB/s (for HDD in Shadow Man 2) and 850 kB/s (best compatibility with SMB).

The reason why I think a separate mode wouldn't be good is because somebody would have to code is for auto-selecting speed based on the game and device used. That seems like a lot of work, so it's better to just add a simple configuration to Mode 1. Personally, I would file it under "Mode 1 fine-tuning: <pick speed>" in Game Settings.

1200 kB/s to play Shadow Man smoothly via HDD, possibly other CDs games (somebody should check Racer Revenge)

I remember that I was testing Star Wars: Racer Revenge through USB long ago, so the transfer was lower that 1200 kB/s.
After some time BGM in the race will stop to play.

Yet it's faster than 850 kB/s. Worth trying that if 1200 kB/s is too fast. It's also too fast for the Phantsy Star remake, but it's good for Shadow Man (via HDD).

Worth mentioning that the CD-ROM speed in PS2 as it is widely-documented only applies to reading data from the centre continuously. However, due to seek times which can be very high if a game uses a ton small files (like SD textures), the timing becomes very tricky. Since we can't emulate the actual movement and data reading of a laser assembly, we can only use an external delay via lowering the data reading speed. That's why Shadow Man 2 and the Phantasy Star remake now work - we simply matched the timing of a real CD-ROM, even if the speed is actually different. Other than re-programming Shadow Man 2 and the PS remake (which nobody will do), this is the only way.

I remember that I've tried this game (Star Wars: Racer Revenge ) with various modes (1, 3...) and combination (1+3+6...),
because I was trying to get BGM working.

BTW Castle Shikigami 2 needs Mode 1 to have BGM even for USB, but I don't know why?!
I mean normal Ifcaro OPL with transfer speed "set for DVD".
No other modes will helps this game to have BGM?!

Because Mode 1 isn't just about lower speeds. It has its own characteristics. That's why it's not a replacement of the DMA modes.

If you can, please try Racer Revenge with 850 kB/s. USB is faster than that, so the game might now work. Of course, it's just a guess. That's how QA works, though. Test and react.

Hello, first time here.
I am using OPL 0.9.3 official version and trying to run Operations side, but it freeze after loading memory card.
Operations side is Japanese name, English name is lifeline. This game requires microphone to play.
Anyways I saw sp193 post fix about this on another forum back in 2014 or something. Just wondering if there was any way to play this game from HDD?

OK, I tested it and it still get freeze screen
I used newest beta build and also tried to turn on option 3 and 6 as I was told.
Still same symptom, I boot game from OPL and it check for memory card, then ask me to plug in microphone, even microphone is plugged in, it ask me to plug in mic. So I unplug it from PS2 and then the warning goes away, then screen shows Sonly entertainment whatever in white text, then it freeze.

Have you tried with a vanilla 0.9.3 build?

I was sure sp193 fixed this game years ago. Maybe it's a regression in the beta?

BTW, @jolek. I still haven't tried Racer Revenge because I currently can't access my PS2. I hope to have it done tomorrow.

Yes I did try with vanilla 0.9.3 with it and same result.
so sad....haha

Hoping that sp193 can chime in

If he has any free time, I'm sure he will. You'll just have to wait. It's possible that he fixed the US version and the JPN one doesn't boot. Then again, maybe your mic is broken? Or the USB ports in your PS2?
Thing is, I tried another game that requires mic and it works fine.
I was able to play that game with out any problem. Game is called "Shibai michi"
It is just this game that is failing.

So I know my mic works and USB port is working as well.

Then it seems sp193 didn't manage to fix this game after all. I'm sorry if that's true. One last thing - did you also try Mode 1+6?

You can try separate modes e.g. 1, 2, 3...6, 8. Mode 7 is unused.
You can try combinations 1+2+3+6, 1+3+6, 2+3+4+6...
Maybe eventually something might help, but it might be also a problem with initialization check.

Changing the reading speed does nothing for Racer Revenge. This game needs debugging because the music is broken due to some obscure issue, not a simple timing problem.
